Of course, the thing about XC running to Newquay is that, if you live in Bugle, Luxulyan or Roche, then you can't get around on a Saturday. Surely they should be able to fit in a train to Newquay for XC each way? I know it's 'full to capacity' but wouldn't they be able to do a bit of re-jiggin?

Not sure what this means, could you clarify please?

Leaving aside the number of potential passengers, I don't think XC will stop at short platforms, and I doubt that GW would want to spare a 153 to run on the branch on summer Saturdays when they are reduced to using Night Riviera stock on the main line.

Pretty annoyed that now that the 350/4 have been cleared for 110mph running, there's no improvements to times on the MAN-EDI/GLA routes. <(

The GW HSTs which stop at Saltash only have the very front coach unlocked due to the signal controlling access to the single section over the Royal Albert Bridge being half way down the platform and the platform being fairly short.

Virgin Trains East Coast and Northern timetables for Summer 2016 are now available on their websites.

To find them (it seems as though they are almost a secret!) it is probably easiest to type "timetables" in the search window.

Virgin West Coast are up too, though you need to scroll to the foot of the home page and click on 'site map' and look for t/ts there!

So Arriva have decided to use the same design for the timetables with a few minor modifications like a new logo and new font on the front page, they've not even updated the Twitter handle!

Quick question.

The Class 319s have been in service on almost all services on these routes for most of the last year. Durning the week, there are a couple of through services from Blackpool still sprinters. All Sunday services to Blackpool and I think Warrington on a Saturday are still sprinters too.

Why then are all of the services that are known to be Class 319s still pathed in the timetable as Sprinters, 75mph max speed?

I was hoping at this May's timetable change they would have updated the pathing and everything would have been a bit faster. I assume there is some technical reason why this cannot be done yet so if anyone could enlighten me that would be wonderful.

Given that reliability of the 319s has been patchy at best, it makes sense that if a sprinter has to fill in it won't automatically lose time over the schedule. There's also the issue of the split at Preston being temporary, once wires to Blackpool are up and juiced there may well be a recast with through services returning.

Arriva Trains Wales (ATW or, for our Welsh friends, TAC) seem not to have too many changes this time around. A poster I saw today at the railway station in Newport advises of the following:

Timetable 1:
On Sundays:
- 1738 PWL - MCN retimed to be 2 minutes later between TYW and DVY.
- 1855 MCN - PWL retimed to be 5 minutes later between TYW and PWL.

Timetable 2:
- Mon - Fri: 1658 CMN - MAN is retimed to be 3 minutes later NWP - MAN.
- Sat: 1650 HHD - CDF calls additionally at CTT (1941) & CRV (1949).

Timetable 3:
On Mon - Fri during closure of the Severn Tunnel (12/09-16 - 21/10/16):

- 1615 MST - CNM will terminate at GCR at 1818.
- 1845 CNM - CDF will start from GCR at 1845 and run earlier to CDF.

Timetable 4:
- Mon - Fri: 0514 HHD - MAN to also call at LPG (05x35) then later to LLJ.
- Sun: 0728 (BUS) MAN - CTR to start at 0718, then times as shown from MCO.

Timetable 5:
No significant changes

Station Codes (for anyone who doesn't know):
CDF: Cardiff Central | CMN: Carmarthen | CNM: Cheltenham Spa
CRV: Craven Arms | CTR: Chester | CTT: Church Stretton
DVY: Dovey Junction | GCR: Gloucester | HHD: Holyhead
LLP: Llanfairpwll | MAN: Manchester Piccadilly | MCN: Machynlleth
MCO: Manchester Oxford Rd | PW: Pwllheli | TYW: Tywyn

The new timetables for the ex-TPE Cumbria services are not yet on the website. Although the Cumbrian Coast timetable does show the 11 July changes to Barrow - Preston services that are consequent to a Sprinter replacing another 185 (see http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?p=2511054#post2511054)

Don't think anyone proofread page 2 of the Northern 6 (Carlisle-Barrow-Preston) timetable as they seem to think TPE still run services between BIF and LAN.

If it's the same team I don't think they are bothered about errors. I fed back to them ages ago that Knutsford has cycle storage on both platforms but the icon for cycle storage available isn't shown next to Knutsford. It still isn't. More seriously there's been misprints in departure times which have been missed in the past.

Still waiting on a Barrow - Manchester Airport if there is going to be one, but a Windermere - Preston No 38 has been added.

I think they will leave the timetable pretty much as it is until the first stage of the new franchisee's promised improvements. Without a total recast the journey time savings from using 319 timings will just reappear as padding on the approach to each major junction where the train has to wait for the existing path.

Interesting that the Mon-Fri times Northern's "38 Mini" timetable shows for the 1025 Preston to Windermere and the 1803 Windermere to Preston are (according to NRE and RTT) only correct from 11 July, when these services are timed for a Sprinter. From 16 May to 08 July, these services are timed for a faster 185, which leaves Preston 4 minutes later and gets back there 16 minutes earlier, but these timings are not shown in Northern's timetable.

I suppose Northern might argue that it does not matter that a service departs later, or arrives earlier, than shown on the timetable. However, after 16 May regular travellers will no doubt learn the actual times, so there is then a risk that they will then be caught out by the unpublicised July changes (e.g. rock up to Preston at 1029 on 11 July as usual and find that they have missed the 1025).

Northern have not yet published a Scarborough - Bridlington (Hull) timetable. They have a Bridlington to Hull leaflet but nothing else. This doesn't include any reference to Scarborough, nor indeed does it show which trains continue to Sheffield (or York).
Anyone know why?

It was there (see attached file), but they seem to have replaced it by the mini timetable by mistake.

Just 10 days to go and still no eNRT.
Plus ça change.

Barry Doe's column in the current edition of RAIL gives a very good explanation of what's gone wrong with the production of the NRT.

Middleton Press are abandoning it in favour of their own version this time around due to the level of inaccuraccies.

Update to the above: Table 82 of the eNRT shows both the 1029 Preston to Windermere (until 8 July) and the 1025 (from 11 July). However, the latter service has now disappeared from both RTT and journey planners, leaving a 2-hour gap between successive services from Oxenholme to Windermere. There is no substitute ECS working timetabled, so the unit appears to be helicoptered into Windermere to form the return service!

I suspect that Northern may have belatedly identified a problem with the diagramming for this service, so an amendment to the published timetables might be needed.

The last issue they discontinued the PDF timetable, only leaving the 250-odd separate PDFs. I wrote to them saying how this was inconvenient to many, given that it's no real work to produce a single overall PDF document, only to receive a most patronising reply back from the staff there that as THEY had decided it wasn't necessary, they couldn't see what grounds anyone had to complain.

I see they haven't reinstated it. Presumably abandoned for good.

I accept your frustration, but for many others, myself included, the separate PDFs are much handier as you can tab between the tables far easier than if they were in a single file.

Be thankful we still have an NRT - from that article it's clear NR aren't too keen on it.
