Kept to my plan all day - only alteration was getting an earlier train from Brighton as the 1013 (??) to Cambridge was cancelled. Back home now at my scheduled time, noticed the roads were a lot lighter this afternoon and fewer pax on the bus! What did you do in the end? Just curious.

Looking at RTT, there is definitely now a restriction N of York.East Coast Mainline - Has that Blanket Speed Restriction of 50mph been implemented yet?
Oh sorry! yes the scheduled MIA > Blackpool turned up as was suggested on here and I managed to scramble on that one. Had I missed that (and got it only just) then there was the alternative of getting the next train to Oxford Road and then the Bolton train which starts there on P5. All good in the end!Lol I meant after Man Picc. You seemed to have a couple of options, MCO or MCV being under consideration. (I know the Bolton/Southport line pretty well so was just wondering what you ended up on.)
Down main has reopened. Went via Electric lines up road to Romford. Even with congestion at Shenfield I was only 13 late into Stratford and less into Liverpool St so no delay repay on my trainHere's the tree in question via GA website

No ScotRail services expected to run before 12pm tomorrow. Official post from ScotRail confirms this.
Good call to close the WCML north of Preston today as Palisade fencing has fallen onto the line north of Carlisle and there is a roof from a nearby house now blocking the line at Shap.
Having been okay for most of the day it appears Teesside has finally collapsed in a heap. Something wrong at/around Eaglescliffe I think? Either way it's collapsed the service. There's a GC that made it to Yarm, sat for maybe an hour and has now reversed back to Northallerton and have now terminated at Darlington before starting a southbound service from there.
Northern are also in damage control mode. With not much moving at all at the moment other than a service currently on the Bishop branch and one on its way to Middlesbrough from Saltburn.

Oh and the damaged/stricken train is still in situ
I live in a bit of London where the pandemic lockdown was barely adhered to, much less a weather warning that doesn't affect the area. And yet the roads were dead tonight, as was the bus.Kept to my plan all day - only alteration was getting an earlier train from Brighton as the 1013 (??) to Cambridge was cancelled. Travel insurance will not cover you if you decide not to travel because of the weather. I have sometime rescheduled holidays just because its a bit dodgy and not dangerous as I would rather have good weather. So for me flexible bookings are much better. Also some travel insurance including the policy I have from a UK bank only cover you for stays of two nights or more. One night and day trips are not covered.isn't that what Travel insurance is for?
I see. I won't use Booking.com either. Did a trip with a friend a few years ago staying at the same hotel. I booked on the hotel web site, he booked via booking.com. When we checked out he wanted to know why his bill was £5 more than my bill. The receptionist told him it was because he used booking.com and they have to pay commission. My next door neighbour has had some issues with booking.com a few days ago. She had to curtail her short break in Llandudno because of a widespread water supply failure in the area. Hotel told her that as the booking was via Booking.com she would have to claim from them. Booking.com told her she would have to claim from the hotel!Ironically I did book the refundable rate, via booking.com last January after checking out from last year’s stay in the same hotel. At that time with the strikes unresolved I always booked cancellable hotels. However the policy is apparently 48 hours notice for any sort of refund.
I should have popped down to reception last night when I first heard about the storm, might have got one day back, but I was too busy finding train tickets! Never mind, nearly home now, and I would only have been stressing if I’d stayed.
50mph applied from 11.48, XC 1G37 advised by signaller before leaving York. Arrived Newcastle 100 mins late after OHL probs at Aycliffe and waiting services running simbids over down line. People should listen when DO NOT TRAVEL is issued.Looking at RTT, there is definitely now a restriction N of York.

It wouldn't be a proper storm without a trampoline on a railway line!More than leaves on the line at Scotrail...
We've been absolutely battered up here. Expect a severely reduced service tomorrow, diesel routes being the most likely to run.More than leaves on the line at Scotrail...
On Metro there was a kiddie pool that somehow ended up on the track near JesmondIt wouldn't be a proper storm without a trampoline on a railway line!
I can’t imagine anyone who was travelling was doing so because they had a choice.People should listen when DO NOT TRAVEL is issued.
Great to see under-used GSM-R features in operation. What I've been especially impressed with is the berth triggered broadcasts used on the ECML, in resposne to weather at local weather stations. This allows blanket ESRs to be instated and removed in line with the conditions. For instance, Northallerton to York was at line speed, whilst the rest of the north was under a 50mph ESR, thanks to this use of technology - it'd be great to see this rolled out more widely across key mainlines (eg: XC route York - Sheffield, TPE route Leeds - Manchester).
Aha I did wonder after it went on for quite so long if it was something not storm related!Complete failure of the signalling at Eaglescliffe.
Wonder what they were doing. The line via Standedge is open and Northern has not arranged any alternative transport between Halifax and TodmordenHave just seen two TPE rail replacement buses - one in each direction - passing through Hebden Bridge. Both First Huddersfield double-deckers.
I'd really like to get home to my family. There was a do not travel due to the weather, so I didn't travel. I've paid for a hotel, extra food and clothing. I hoped to travel home tomorrow as Avanti seems able to run a service, but Northern seem to think running trains is below them... Taking the wee-wee is letting them off lightly.I can’t imagine anyone who was travelling was doing so because they had a choice.
Maybe if the railway was on the hook for accommodation costs- as happens on the airlines- it would be different.
And I’ll tell you what: if the railways WERE on the hook for accommodation/duty of care you can bet your bottom dollar most of the DO NOT TRAVEL warnings would not have been issued. But the operators get to save the overtime and the passengers are the ones out of pocket. Northern today were taking the absolute wee-wee.
I’m in the same boat but the Isle of Man has been really badly hit and the airport was shut all day. Even if I’d got to Manchester I’d have got no further.Northern seem to think running trains is below them... Taking the wee-wee is letting them off lightly.
