Yeah the forecast (and so far lived experience) is that it started blowly but not terrible but has gotten steadily worse peaking around 1200/1300 and is supposed to start to ease off again as the afternoon goes on. But it has been really really windy for the last couple of hours. It is of course entirely possible that the worest of it is in between the school services and that all that might happen is some trees fall down whilst the children are in school and they get stuck whilst travelling home.
Yes on the "mainline" they've cancelled all the Darlington - Saltburn services (1tph) but are running the Bishop Auckland - Darlington - Saltburn services (also 1tph). Probably a good way of reducing the number of trains/passengers to be dealt with if something does go wrong but whilst still running a useable service. Quite pragmatic.Northern have cancelled around half the service on all the routes they are running, not just Whitby.
