Lewisham station has similarities with other listed stations built at around the same time. One example of this is the listed Ladywell station, which has the same elaborate cast iron supporting brackets as can be found at Lewisham.

As mentioned, Ladywell station is Grade II listed. It was opened in 1857; the same year as was opened another Grade II listed station, this one built by the Midland Railway and designed by the versatile architect Charles Driver: Wellingborough.

At Elmers End, there are two systems of electrification - the Southeastern services on the Hayes branch platforms operate via the 750V direct current third-rail power supply, and the London Trams, formerly Tramlink, services from the terminus platform also operate from a 750V direct current system, but from an overhead-wire power supply. This coexistence of third-rail and overhead-wire power supply systems is also in evidence at Acton Central, which is also a DfT Category D railway station - albeit using 25kV alternating current overhead wires instead of 750V direct current.

Acton Central was on the route of the Super Outer Circle Line of Victorian London; this ran between St Pancras and Earls Court; another station on the same line was Cricklewood.
