It was said just a few weeks ago that no networkers would be withdrawn as a result of the 377 cascade?!

One or two might have thought that, but it was long suspected they would.

However, I wasn't expecting something to go directly to scrap from service at this stage, given how many units have spent years in storage that one would think would go to scrap first (like the 4x 466s that went to scrap from Ely recently). I'll be very keen to see what unit(s) will be dragged here.

I guess seeing if the dual voltage Class 350 units being withdrawn by LNWR would not be considered?
No dual-voltage 350 units are being withdrawn by LNWR. They’re ridding the 350/2s only.

You could say these are being withdrawn as a result of the 707s being all onboarded instead.

The Class 350s aren't metro trains anyway. The doors are horribly slow to open for a start

The DfT shouldn't authorise any new trains without a clear plan from SE demonstrating how they will be introduced in a timely manner and assurances from at least ASLEF about how they will be involved to ensure there is no repeat of the debacles we've seen from the 701 introduction.

DFT Operator run SE so it'll be a different situation from what happened with SWR and the 701s.

How SE is owned (DFT or private) wouldn't make a jot of difference to the competency of its management when introduction new rolling stock.

These two must have serious problems if they're being scrapped before other 466s in store at Ely/Worksop.
That's because 037 was on fire.
A Kent commuter line was blocked for several hours on Tuesday after a fire broke out on a Networker unit.

Units 465001 and 466037 had formed the 1355 Ashford International to London Victoria on October 15 when the small blaze, believed to be an overheating axle, began on the latter at Bearsted.

Around 40 passengers who were on board at the time were evacuated by the driver and conductor without anyone being injured.

The line between Ashford and Maidstone East was blocked in both directions while the fire was extinguished, before the down line was reopened in the evening.

I'm guessing then that unit has not been in service since. Funnily enough I travelled on a service earlier that had 466028, the other 466 that infamously caught fire in recent years (though this time it was fine).

And also the terms and conditions for traincrew are very different.

DfT requesting "clear plan" wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference. I'm sure SWR also had "clear plan".

More importantly, there are rolling stock factories, desperate for orders...
There's also quite a few military factories that are likely to see an increase in orders now with ramped up defence spending which could take priority.

As for the Transport Secs links with SE land, does that count for much when knocking on the Treasuries door asking for money in the current climate. Just today bond yields are shooting up again as a result of the past week that will increase borrowing and in turn leasing costs for new stock.

A shame to see the 466s go. They did a good job adding capacity and there's now quite a few 4-car or 8-car services running that are getting very cosy and could do with being 6 or 10 cars in length.
