They can and do.
They can, but there are not enough 375/3s available to make it happen. You need 2x 3-car units per 10-car formation, and as there are only 10 across Southeastern, the 5 diagrammed Tun Wells' formations would use them all, and even if only one or two diagrams became 10-car 375/3, that still puts a strain given half of them are used on the branch lines, and one or two 11-car formations already exist.

References to Tunbridge Wells have been removed from the publicity material about the 377s (and were a few weeks ago):

Newer trains are arriving on our Maidstone East route this year

Our fleet upgrade continues with the introduction of improved trains on our Maidstone East route this year, which will mainly be used to replace the older Networkers.

The newer trains will help provide a more reliable service and a better experience with air conditioning, at-seat plug sockets, and improved onboard information.

All 13 trains will enter passenger service before December 2025.

So yes, Networkers

They should send 10 car 376s out there, so that the locals can REALLY live up to the "Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells" moniker :D

Is the fault rate on Networkers increasing? 2 morning cancellations this week and Monday morning’s train fault wrecked service on all 3 Dartford routes.

Wouldn't be surprised given their advanced age. If you know what specific diagrams were responsible someone could trace what stock formed them.

Not sure if this is the correct thread, but there are 2x465's at Dover Priory ready for the 1418 to Cannon Street at the moment.

Continuing the scrapyard rotation I see.

I think Newport is pretty busy finishing off the end of the 321 fleet and the cancelled Orion 319s so it makes sense to go Kingsbury. It's been a while since any railway items had their demise there so far as I know!

Something I thought about recently, is if the new fleet has battery power options, this could finally allow the long-defunct carriage siding at Dartford to come back into use. The siding (no.2?) is 16 carriages long, but because no safe walkway could be provided to it (it was surrounded by third rail), it had to be de-electrified and locked out of use. But if battery units come to the network, presumably the siding could be accessed again without any third rail surrounding it. I suspect there are a number of other stabling points that this could be done too as well.

I'd be amazed if the DfT/Treasury sign off a big enough order that it'd be needed. I expect they'll seek a net reduction in overall carriages but with higher capacity interiors.

In fact, what time period will they be basing passenger totals on for the order? A year ago? Been some decent growth since.

While I agree the order likely won't be large enough that it's needed for extra capacity reasons, operationally SE might want it back in use for convenience. There are 4 other active sidings there, including during the day to allow strengthening/short-forming in relation to peak flows. If it was also reinstated they could hold stock there that doesn't have to be held at Slade Green or Grove Park, which reduces the "queue time" for trains entering/leaving service at the start/end of the day, but I'm not privy to what specifically becomes possible.

Thursday 1st May - there's a move from Ely Papworth to Newport Sims via Cambridge scheduled on RTT - 465/466s I guess.

This is the drag, interesting this one is going via London, compared to the early 466 drags to Newport going via the Midlands and Caldicot.

UPDATE: 465240 and 248 are the units being dragged.

Thank you for this. The irony for me today was I was in the Severn Beach area on a work site visit, but couldn't escape to go and watch this pass through, so it slipped by right under my nose. If there's a drag to Newport on Tuesday next week I maybe able to make a dedicated trip to spot that.

Guess that's this, then. My friend got a photo of it today, passing by the entrance to St Pancras International.

Considering they've been stored for some time, externally they don't look too shabby.
