www.caledoniansleeper.info - the "pre-franchise" site - had the first one on it, but the stag logo has gone now (edit: still there on some images on the site).

The new site appears to be www.sleeper.scot - go there now and you get a login page, but if you go to Google and search site:www.sleeper.scot you can look at all the pages, timetable PDFs etc.

It's genuine.

In old BR days they had Train Captains on Test trains, Weedkiller Trains and the like, run from Derby Tech Centre.
Serco took that over on privatisation, (Serco Railtest) that may be where it has come from.

On the Caledonian Sleeper site there was a bit under "News" announcing that a Scottish Designer had been contracted to design the new uniform.

They were captains before Serco got the DLR. Ill endeavour to find out the reason why. Maybe cos like a ships captain they didn't drive their vessel/vehicle.

Missus got back to me and its because they done both guard and platform duties but as they couldn't call them drivers nor guards they decided on 'captain'. .simple as that

Yes I saw that, but the main point is there are no images or details there of what the uniform actually looks like.

Heard they were desperately trying to source some short term locomotives because the 73 refurbish is running behind schedule.

I was just thinking the colour scheme was similar, didn't realise how close the logo actually is to how Midland Mainline's was!

The website is now live, I've just ordered tickets for April. They do accept Railcards, apparently. Didn't get the option to buy lounge acces though, but I bought a Highland Breakfast for £7.50.

That booking site is seriously slick! Far superior to the one that Scotrail offered.

So far I've noticed the following:
  • Railcards are accepted
  • It's no longer possible to buy sleeper tickets with changes online, not via the Nationalrail option. So you'll have to visit the ticket office if you want to travel from somewhere north of Edinburgh but change onto the Lowland Sleeper
  • You can prebook breakfast with sleeper tickets and also your evening meal with first class tickets. Evening meals are £10, breakfast is free in first and differs depending on choice in standard. Most expensive breakfast option is the (Vegetarian) Highland breakfast for £7.50
  • The website says you can buy lounge access in London, at least it does so on the London Euston page. Haven't found that option online but have used the contact form on availability and prices. I believe showers are £5 in King's Cross
  • So far you can only have your tickets delivered by mail.
  • I have yet to find a browser that allows me to reassign berths. Maybe this function is only available when booking for several passengers.

I very much approve of the new booking system. Thank goodness they've changed it, as the standard MixingDeck used by several operators is simply terrible. Even the normal National Rail ticket purchasing system seems to be pretty good, with no fees attached at any point it seems. Good job Serco!

never liked the scotrail website found it very unreliable

I have always booked first class on the sleeper in the past

I notice on serco its slightly cheaper to buy a first class option (free breakfast and £2.50 voucher) than to buy single occupancy of a standard berth(no breakfast or £2.50)
seems odd

Replying to an old post, I know, but I regularly book sleeper tickets (with berth) through The Trainline's business site.

It seems odd that a single-occupancy Standard berth is more expensive than booking two people into one...that's rather unfair. People will just book for two and only one turn up in that case.

They could do with adding the option to purchase a supplement to an existing ticket.

Also, it appears they are barring lounge access for Standard ticket holders? That won't be popular. I know First Class has priority, but AIUI you can usually get in.

Having looked at a few random journeys it appears it's also slightly cheaper to buy a First Class berth ticket than it is to book the Standard solo berth ticket, even though the First Class ticket includes more with it.

It does seem a bit bizarre, at the very most you would expect it just to be twice the price. A quick look at ABD to EUS and 1st is cheaper than the solo upgrade.

The website looks good and the logo does look pretty good when you see the actual website rather than just on its own.

The evening menu also looks very good.

I also like that there will be a range of books available onboard.
