Which is even more bizarre. Wales hasn't suffered any attacks that I can recall. The wording of the announcement suggests they are aimed at terrorism rather than anything else.

The more unresolved reports they get, the more they can focus resources (and get more funding) for problematic areas. Each text is another piece of data telling the BTP where the problems are getting worse. No, they can't respond to everything, but yes, they do use the data to reduce ASB.

Not just Wales. At Paddington just now there was a double version of the new announcement at 1400, a single at 1405 and another double at 1410. It's evidently set to go off every five minutes.

I feel like someone's cocked up/misinterpreted something somewhere and instead of playing a 61016 message at a required interval, they have managed to get get it to play each 61016 message at that same interval, meaning that as there are now multiple scripts, we're hearing the messages 2/3/4 times as often.

I don't know how the PA system works, but at Cardiff Central it's almost like someone deleted the old announcement from the 'playlist' and added the three new recordings all in one go without spreading them out, so now you hear all 3 bilingual announcements one after another, rather than them being spread out through the 'playlist' so they appear to alternate - at least I assume the intention of the multiple scripts is to have them alternating somewhat to slightly reduce the repetition.

Much rather have the number shown on the train itself than have it repeatedly bombarded into my ears. No matter how many times I hear it - when I needed it I couldn't recall it.

I was in the UK for 10 days.

See it say it sorted is burned into by brain.

I don’t understand why you need three. Other than the first line, the rest of the announcement is more or less the same. Why not say ‘If you see any unattended items, or anything that doesn’t feel quite right…’ rather than an announcement for each?!

Then to top it off. They stack a very badly recorded CCTV announcement at the same time too! It ended up playing about 4 minutes of generic stuff every half an hour. Excluding the luggage, engineering works, platform slopes, buy before you board and no smoking announcements that play at different times.

I don’t know if it was just luck or policy, but during a recent set of journeys on Scotrail in the central belt there was not one single SSS announcement. At Glasgow Queen St there was a more sensible announcement along the lines of “if you see unattended items or anything suspicious please contact station staff or British Transport Police’“. (BTP were visibly on patrol). It went downhill when I got on an LNER service at Edinburgh.

I'll second that.

I've heard that a few times now - the see it, say it, sod it spiel starts to play around when the train announcement would normally start, and by the time it's finished the train is at the platform and the train announcement never happens.

Not hugely helpful.

It seems odd to program the system so that a time-sensitive announcement isn't allowed to override one that can be done at any time.

But yeah some of these announcements are a bit silly. Is there any evidence it improves safety to remind people that during wet weather, surfaces may be slippery? Seems kinda obvious to me.

I don't know if this is everywhere, but Oop North on TPE we now have the announcement saying "6-101-6" instead of the previous "6-1-0-1-6". The latter is much clearer to comprehend, I think.

Yes, I could never remember if it was 61016 or 61610 or 61061 etc. until it was pointed out on this very thread that it was 6-101-6. Now it's burned into my brain and I'll never get it wrong again. I just hope I don't need to use it!

I meant that "six-one-zero-one-six" was clearer to understand than "six--one-oh-one--six" (partly because the "one-oh-one" bit sounded muffled on the announcements I heard), but I guess it proves the point that we're all different in how we see, hear and understand messaging.

At Cardiff this morning, the first three minutes at the station were a continuous stream of non train information announcements, including two SSS ones.

Transport for Wales says "wedi sylwi, wedi sôn wedi sortio", translating rather neatly as see it, say it, sorted. (Literally note it, mention it, sorted).

But Avanti's announcement says "wedi sylwi, wedi sôn, wedi setlo", see it, say it, settled. A rather interesting little discrepancy.
