Then it said welcome aboard this northern train to not service to?

And to top it off,
on that same train AND a TPE 185 - it said "See it, say it, and we'll sort it."
What has happened to the original?
And is it now like this on all operators?

Some TOCs seem to have come up with their own versions, the Chiltern version I find is the best.

I first noticed that on a TPE a while ago (and also at a TPE-run station), so it's not a brand new thing.

I've heard the, "and we'll sort it", variant for quite a while in various places.

I get why the slogan isn't, "See it, say it, sort it", because the passenger won't be the person to 'sort it'. But it always felt a bit off that it was, "sorted", at the end.

I always associate the word "sorted" with drug-related songs like The Shamen's "Ebeneezer Goode" and Pulp's "Sorted For Es and Wizz" so it's always seemed inappropriate to hear it on a train!

On a more serious note, never mind changing the SISISI announcement, it's really time it was retired by now. No one takes a blind bit of notice any more.

I think we should keep it. For the people who don't take any notice of it, 61016 is likely drilled into their head also. For people who aren't used to it, it's useful information. To that end, I think it serves its purpose pretty well.

It’s a blatant misuse of the PA system too - if you’re doing such a campaign do it with posters/digital media - it is just more “ear spam” as an announcement.

I heard 'see it say it sorted/sort it' 14 times between Edinburgh and Sutton (on 3 trains and stations).

There is no evidence that this announcement does anything to improve safety and security on our railways. I have seen no evidence published anywhere. Our railways are no safer than before the See It Say It Sorted announcements were rolled out. All it does is annoys passengers.

I have never even known anyone to use the police text service. I am sure some people have but i have never done so and never heard of anyone else who has. In any case the police are very unlikely to even bother turning up if you text them. Plus the person who was causing problems would probably be off the train and gone by time they arrive in the rare occassion that they did turn up. So i think the entire campaign of telling people to use the police text service is completely pointless.

How does almost every other country in the world manage without this. For some reason the UK is obsessed with endless unnecessary safety announcements. It is so nice going to Mainland Europe and travelling by train and not having any of these annoying See It Say It Sorted announcements or any other pointless safety announcements. All they announce is where the train is going and what the next station is and the calling pattern. Yet they seem to have no more safety or security issues than us.

I have never even known anyone to use the police text service. I am sure some people have but i have never done so and never heard of anyone else who has. In any case the police are very unlikely to even bother turning up if you text them. Plus the person who was causing problems would probably be off the train and gone by time they arrive in the rare occassion that they did turn up. While you may not have used it I can assure you that it does get used. Sometimes these things are 'live' incidents which will be followed up as appropriate, that can be rail staff rather than police attending. Other times as you rightly say it may be too late for any immediate action but reports can still build a pattern of offending which is helpful for intelligence reasons. It may also encourage people to report incidents like sexual assault where the process of reporting might otherwise put them off.

However I'm entirely in agreement with everyone saying it shouldn't be a PA message, the furthest I'd go is to concede that occasional limited campaigns to raise awareness might be helpful. That way it doesn't become part of the constant barrage of noise that just gets tuned out.

For me, the verb 'to sort' is to arrange items in some kind of pattern, not to deal with something, that would be 'to sort it out'. Once I have arranged the said items, they would be 'sorted'; something dealt with would be 'I've sorted that out'. This use of 'to sort' and 'sorted' to mean the latter is, so far as I can tell, something copied from telly crime dramas, where some East End heavy grunts 'sor'id' after having fulfilled his task of burying a corpse or the like. Why it's used as a slogan, and one that is seemingly broadcast over the train's tannoy after every stop, is beyond me. It's been used for far too long, and either needs to be replaced by something less grating, or -- better -- not replaced at all, thereby helping to give passengers a more relaxing journey.

Whilst you may not have used it I can assure you it does get used, usually for situations that people don't feel comfortable telling the train crew about; for example if they are within earshot of the person/people they wish to report.
And the BTP are pretty good at responding to it. Yes, sometimes the perpetrator(s) have left the train before it reaches a station where the police can attend, but not always. Even if they have left the incident will be logged. The person sending the text will usually be sent a reply asking for more information, descriptions etc, and they may receive a phone call at a suitable later time so that they can give a telephone statement. Sometimes the police can use that and CCTV to apprehend the culprit(s) later on.
And the majority of passengers who use the service know the number because of the "pointless/annoying" etc. etc announcements!

As for TPE it has been "we'll sort it " at the end for at least six years and probably much longer; they (rightly IMO) thought it more grammatically correct than "sorted", and as @CaptainHaddock alludes to, less reminiscent of a 90s rave in a warehouse!

It really depends on your location. In Norwich I left for lunch for 5 minutes and when I got back there was chaos with paramedics and BTP attending a drunk and disorderly woman who had passed out. I'd imagine at stations without constant BTP presence they'd take upwards of 30 minutes to arrive.

A few years ago a passenger text BTP on my train regarding a woman who had attempted to end her life onboard the train. I had no idea, (i was the guard) nobody told me and I had only been sat in the cab for 15 minutes after doing a ticket check. Nothing was untoward, the woman who made the attempt had just bought a ticket off me and seemed all well and good. It was a quiet late night service, only a couple of people onboard, a pleasant train to work. I didnt find out until the (proper) police got on at the next stop having been told by BTP that somebody had texted in. Thankfully the woman involved was ok, had it not been for 61016 being informed she wouldnt have been dealt with by police for at least a further 20 minutes at the following station, when I would have discovered her myself after doing the next round of tickets.

The announcements are annoying I agree, but 61016 is well used by the public and staff. Many times BTP have met me at a station following a text from a passenger, and I have had to text them myself many times regarding various incidents, our company encourage it as a way to build a picture of crime across the network and to obtain CCTV downloads etc.

I don't think anyone is complaining about the 61016 announcements, they don't take long and may help save a life. It's the tedious to the point of infuriating "see it say it sod it" ones that make people lose the will to live.

On Thameslink trains, people have tuned out announcements so effectively that the ones in the core stations stating ‘the doors will open automatically at the next station’ don’t seem to sink in. People still jab at the door button…
