I’d imagine you would need to apply again and that would involve doing the online tests again. If you have passed the actual train drivers assessments then they wouldn’t need to be set again.
I had failed the DMI the first time of asking and then had to reapply (pass the sift) and went straight to DMI didn’t need to do the first tests again. However this is before the new process came into effect when there was only 2 lives etc.
I was in this situation. I failed at that stage with avanti and when i applied to scotrail they invited me to the first assessments again and i just said when i got there that i had passed previously and they put me straight through to DMI.

Sounds like one that's used for air traffic control applicants.
I do know that specific parts of it are definitely used in commercial aviation pilot tests.
Do you know ow if there's any resources to practice the new AON?

Finally after 2 years, I got the call to say I’m starting at Corkerhill depot in may. Big thanks to all the folk who offered advice and tips during all the interview stages.

Congrats! When you say after 2 years, do you mean from first applying or from when you passed all assessments?

Apparently, according to a driver pal there, Ayr is pretty much the model depot headcount and KPI wise. Apparently still some to come through to Ayr who are currently in training, but the drivers never have any overtime now (apart from Sundays) so it seems Ayr are almost the perfect depot for the company, no overtime to cover shifts, spare drivers available everyday and never any uncovered jobs.
Sods law. I'm for Ayr too.
Nonsense. There's no holiday blocks in January and February, so there is an additional 11 spare turns a day at Ayr that would normally cover drivers on holiday to cover sickness, training and granting of additional lieu leave. Once the holidays kick in at the end of February there will be plenty of overtime at Ayr as normal.
I was told that before the Jan to Feb 16th curfew. Surely those current 11 spares will still be sufficient to cover jobs? I'm not talking OT, for which Sunday working union meetings are ongoing, I'm talking general KPI headcount and the likelihood of trainees being needed out the pool for Ayr in the short term...

I got asked what would I do if a trampoline had blown onto the tracks....
Ayr and almost all other depots have been carrying excess drivers for a couple of years now and there has been plenty of overtime.
The age profile of drivers in ScotRail is old, with over 50% over the age of 50 so lots of retirements coming in the next few years which will hoover up the current trainees and the result will be very small net gains on driver numbers.
12 trainees starting for Ayr over the course of this year.
I hope you're right I'm one thats waiting for Ayr but not had a medical yet

There’s 9 of us (that I know of) waiting for Ayr, a couple have been waiting for over 4 months now
Have those 9 had medicals or currently waiting for one or a mix of both?

None have had medicals, you won’t get a medical until you’re given a start date. Be prepared to wait a while. I think 12 trainees this year for Ayr is unlikely, as I say I know of 9 of us (including yourself) who have all passed their assessments and all waiting on a start date. If there were to be 12 of us at Ayr this year then at least 1 or 2 would have been given a start date by now I would think, happily be proved wrong though!

Has anyone booked holidays for this year knowing that they might get a start? I'm reluctant to, but don't want to put life on hold at the same time.

You cannot take holidays in the first 3-4 months due to initial classroom training. Any booked holidays will not be honoured. I started in July 2019 and had holidays booked for October 2019.
I was advised by ScotRail to move them into the following year. The other option they gave me was that I would be put into a pool and should any jobs come up after my holidays then I would get a start date. I contacted the tour operator and moved my holidays to the following May and started driving in July 2019.
Due to the global pandemic, we never got away in May 2020. Had I been put into the pool instead, I may of not got the job due to recruitment being put on hold for a long time.
As you say, you don't want to put your life on hold. Personally I would book your holiday but ensure that it can be moved, if required.
