Scotrail Class 385 Discussion

Have to say that ScotRail are doing a fairly decent job of getting these units into service quickly and they seem to be pushed into service more rapidly than the 380s were 7-8 years ago. As of today 9 out of the 16 delivered units (003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 016, 103, 104 and 122) have been observed to be in service at some point. It's been mentioned previously that the 'test units' (001, 002, 101 and 102) which are currently having their interiors fitted in Italy can be pushed into service fairly quickly once delivered because they will have accumulated enough mileage anyway, so hopefully by December we'll have a large fleet of them in service.

What's happening now is certainly much better compared with what was speculated back in March when it was thought they wouldn't be introduced until December!

The windscreens are being replaced at Craigentinny.

I have not seen 013 or 105 at the factory for a few weeks so will keep an eye out as I would expect they will be the next two for delivery.

The new services contained in the ScotRail press release suggest that they think there will be enough 385s delivered to cover the planned 31 diagrams. Therefore I’d expect the number of deliveries to increase substantially from now on.

First trip on a 385 this morning, I’ve somehow managed to dodge them until now.

Comfort wise I think the seat is fine for the length of the journey although I do prefer my work and car chair to be bolt upright which may affect my thoughts a bit.

I do think however that the ride quality is pretty poor, particularly on the stretch between Falkirk High and just after Lenzie. Just after Falkirk (about 1 min after departure) it was shaking like hell and then just after Lenzie it went over a set of points and it was rough. Possibly just the way I’m feeling this morning but I haven’t noticed that on a 170, 380 or 365

The points you mention are at Cadder yard. The rough ride has been reported many times and the points are to be replaced this month. It's not the train on this occasion!

That’s good. I’ve probably only noticed it as much today because it was the new train and was paying a bit more attention.

67010 arrived and there is a 385 in the test shed with the delivery panel fitted but was unable to identify it, will pop back over later to see what it is
