Don't think you find a 385 tomorrow, rumour going round they've been withdrawn.

There was a serious failure today involving the 12.15 Edinburgh to Glasgow. Looking very much like they'll be removed from traffic.

I'm not disclosing on a public forum but initial investigations indicate it was a serious issue. However much more investigation is required to establish what cauaed it.

The article says that the near-overshoot happened last month and that the fleet remains in service

Yes, but the fact that there's a suggestion of another serious issue today, reading between the lines it may well be the same issue that has occurred.

If there is a problem with brakes being isolated, and if it has happened on different units, then I can't see any way that they remain in service until it is fully investigated. If nothing else, the confidence of those working the trains could be lost until a full explanation and resolution of the fault.

The 385 introduction must really be denting Hitachi’s reputation. The introduction of these trains really has been a farce.

I was on the 11.15 Glasgow to Edinburgh, so it would have been the same set on its next run. All seemed well when I was on it (thankfully), but I shall brace myself for short formations tomorrow.

800s also suffering with a significant brake lag with two systems not working together correctly!

I wouldn’t take what the papers say as being the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Especially anything written by Alistair Dalton in The Scotsman.

Imagine if it was a single unit...and they won't ground the fleet?
The Scotsman article mentions that the brakes on the rear set were isolated in the earlier incident so it may be an issue with the multiple working system. If that is the fault then a single unit would be ok.

Reports on scot-rail of at least one pair of 170s on the E&G yesterday and journeycheck showing at least one diagram today as being 6 vice 8, so presumably another pair today

Well take from this what you will but

0700 off GLQ binned due to a failure
0715 off EDB is a double 170 with the front set having some tidy sounding flats
There is some form of 385 sitting disgraced in the sidings at Linlithgow. Can't quite make out whether it's 4 or 7 coaches.

111 "Train Formation Updates" at time of posting. And the 0700 GLQ-EDB and the return 0800 EDB-GLQ cancelled, so let's see how that one progresses. A lot of services on routes other than EDB-GLQ express affected, as stock is pulled in to cover

It's a pair of 385s in the loop (I'm at currently at Linlithgow station). 0715 ex Glasgow is in the platform, it's 170 458 and 470.

The 7:45 to Edinburgh from Linlithgow today was a pair of 170s, packed like sardines from Linlithgow! The 385 was not in the loop at this point as far as I’m aware.
