Obviously the 2 (I think) remaining 170 diagrams on Edinburgh-Glasgow are an easy target, but the priority has to be to replace diesel diagrams, so anything via Grangemouth & Glasgow-Stirling-Alloa (or Edinburgh-Stirling-Dunblane) would seem higher priorities than replacing 365s/380s on Edinburgh-Glasgow or anything on North Berwick.

The 365s will stop things falling apart when the 6 170s leave in July, though it will be far from perfect. But by October, Scotrail will need 385s and/or HSTs to be pulling their weight to first stabilise, then improve the situation.

It is a priority to replace the 380s as soon as possible. Constant high speed running and high mileages on the E & G are playing havoc with the 380's maintenance regeim which isn't designed round these scenarios.

I can imagine that the mileage might be high, but surely linespeeds between Glasgow and Ayr aren't so different from E-G?

I’d imagine they run at higher speeds for longer on the E-G compared to Ayrshire.

First class is starting up again from the 9th. A sign that the trains are starting? Or just to make use the 365 wee first class section?

Only time I've ever used first class on scotrail is part of advance to Newcastle . Your actually paying less as it was peak time !

Does E-G need first class? It’s (roughly) a 50 min commuting line, I’d rather the extra seats

It carts politicians & captains of industry between east & west. If the folk in first are actually paying rather than faredodging standard class ticket holders then it's probably a nice little earner, even if it's only busy in the peaks.

And senior lawyers/judges. They're based in Edinburgh, but the high court most often sits in Glasgow.

It's also a very easy way to guarantee a table in the peaks, especially if you're getting on at Haymarket. I've only once paid for it, but I really needed a table to work at before/after meetings.

I used to use First on the Glasgow - Inverness/Aberdeen trains quite regularly, until I stopped travelling that way regularly. It's a nice upgrade for not much more, and the little 9-seat compartments on the 170s are quite nice.

As far as the E&G is concerned, I suspect it makes more sense on partially loaded services - if passengers are willing to pay £15 to travel on a half-empty train, it seems silly to only charge them £10. Or whatever the actual fares are...

Has this been confirmed?

I thought 1st class would be declassified until the 385s replace the 380s on the route.

The announcement of the suspension of 1st class is still on the Scotrail website but I can't see anything about it being unsuspended.

Well that's what I would have thought, but there are announcements in Waverley advising that it is back from the 9th. It does also say that it is available on board and subject to availability. So they could just be looking to sell upgrades on the train to make use of the space on the 365 maybe .

Seems a little strange given the continued use of 380s for a while yet. And when I had my ride on a 365 a week or two ago, there was no attempt made at ticket checking so anyone in first would have had no problems whatever ticket they had. Ironically I had a First Class ticket but sat in Standard!

I don’t think there’s ever any real attempt at ticket checking on a doubled up unit, with the guard staying in the rear unit throughout.

The usual delivery paths for Wednesday and Friday have again appeared on RTT. Whether either actually run, we'll see.

It has, there were announcements at Glasgow Queen Street saying this on Saturday.

Thanks.

Hopefully it's also a sign that some 385s are imminent.

Good. Hopefully we'll have no more standard only units in time. It wasn't uncommon for standard only 170s showing up on E&G diagrams.

Didn’t check yesterday, but NRE and ScotRail websites are indeed offering 1st Class tickets on the E&G line today. That has changed since I took a brief hurl on a 365 on Friday [blatant plug] from 2’ 54” in this video [/blatant plug] when there was only Standard Class on offer.

When I renewed my season ticket from Linlithgow to Glasgow three weeks ago, the First Class option had re-appeared, which is a bit odd given how long it has taken to reintroduce it on the trains themselves! That said, throughout the declassified period, a lot of people hadn't twigged, and I travelled on loads of trains where standard was packed in like sardines and I was the only person sitting in first.

I admit I colluded in keeping the declassification to myself. :) It occasionally got mentioned by traincrew but generally didn't get much publicity.

I’ve still not seen anything on any social media or the website saying it’s been reclassified. The only mention of it I’ve seen has been on here.

2x 385s in Eastfield the last couple of days, and one was out testing through Linlithgow last night
