My understanding is that the maximum possible penalty clause in the contract was reached some time ago.

I know what. Rip out the ironing boards and replace with comfortable seats. :D
Speak for yourself, I find the so called ironing board seats perfectly comfortable and for journeys far longer than the 40 odd minutes the Glasgow to Edinburgh run will take.

I find the seats in the MK4s sheer torture mind you. Bit like bike saddles, what suits one person's arse will be agony for someone else.

I'm assuming the penalty was cash? Even still there's nothing stopping them chucking in something extra to demonstrate good faith.

You do realise I wasn't being completely serious?

Just spotted 385103 and 385104 at Musselburgh.

It stopped at the station for a few minutes and pulled away as I got over the bridge at the station.

Sorry no pics as I’m on my bike.

Maybe North Berwick for first deployments?
first deployments will be E&G out of necessity, because more 170s go off-lease this month.

So July is already ok, and it seems certain that there will be enough 385s in service by October, and who know, maybe Wabtec will have completed an HST set by then. No panic.

Sort of - I wouldn't say July is OK, but it shouldn't get any worse as a result of 170s going south. There are already short-forms elsewhere that probably wouldn't mind getting longer trains back!

I wouldn't bet on it. It will eventually but I'm not sure E&G will get the "1st"

Edit: Appears to be on a test run to Dunbar and back.

Cool not what I was told but you might have heard differently

I expect the remaining class 170 diagram will be top priority if for no other reason than to release stock for the golf open and the Edinburgh Festival.
Nothing stopping them being used on Falkirk Grahamstons either for the same reasons.

The E&G will see Class 385 in passenger service before any other route.
Surely if the 365' are managing on Edinburgh to Glasgow in 8 car formation it would make more sense to introduce the 385s on other services first?

No, there's not enough Class 365s to do the full E&G service, hence Class 385s will oust the final diesels….

Makes sense, but once 170's are ousted would make sense for service to be shared with 365,s initially
