The 380s windows should be locked at all times unless your stuck on the main line and the power from the wires are off. The driver can alter the temp by +/- 3 degrees.

385s are totally sealed no windows on the unit open. The 1st class area is larger than the 1st class on the 170

What are the seats/lighting like? Would you say it's an improvement over the 170?
Overall i would say a big improvement. The seats are alot harder but are strangely more comfortable. The unit is much smoother as well. It's just as quick and brakes just as well as the 380 but it doesn't feel as harsh

Thanks for the update! Are curtains and table lamps included?

The first class seats are the same as the standard ones in the GWR IET while standard gets ironing boards. No table lamps.

Yeah they have a date pencilled in. It will only be 1 maybe 2 units and I don't think it will be the E&G to start

Presumably current deliveries will be already fitted with the flat windows? Any word on whether they've started modifying those already here?

They'll have the original screens. The modifications are to be done at Knorr Bremse in Springburn.

Meanwhile, the problem with the curved windscreens fitted to the class 385 EMUs is close to resolution. On 25th May, ScotRail announced that after trialling a unit fitted with a flat windscreen, feedback from all parties, including the driver’s union Aslef, is that this flat windscreen is fit for purpose. However, before they can enter service, the type approval process has to be finalised, mileage accumulations runs are required and the new flat windscreens need to be fitted to the units that have already been built. This is also to be done at the Knorr-Bremse RailServices depot at Springburn.

I suspect that tonight's delivery is cancelled. A light engine is returning to Tyne yard.

I wouldnt be suprised to see the 385 units going on the remaining diesel diagram 1st then the 380 diagrams, then the North Berwick runs with the 365s operating 3 or 4 of the 8 trains per hr to start with

I thought the priority was 3tph electric (380,365 & 385) and 1tph diesel (class 170) Edinburgh-Queen Street. Thus eliminating short carriages. Don't forget the final six 170/4's go to Northern in November. Hopefully more modified 385's will enter traffic in the autumn.

Once the 385s come in I presume we'll move to 365/385 operation (given the 365s are relatively unlikely to see use elsewhere?) freeing up the 170s for DMU routes, as then we'll have a surplus of EMUs due to the having the 365s in addition to what was expected.

That's the initial plan. Once enough 385s are available I am sure the E&G diesel workings will soon go.
