None delivered and none have left Aycliffe factory. I was on visit to factory last week, trains up to T14 were visable in various build states. Unlike IEPs where 1 per week is being delivered, Hitachi said that they are contracted to deliver a set quantity on certain dates, i think it was 10 complete units by October.

A few key dates:-

August - Mandatory testing due to be completed.

September - Commisioning starts from Craigentinny

October - Around 60 Abellio Scotrail drivers start training

November - Type Approval due

December - 21 trains delivered to ASR.

Am guessing it will be 10 x 4 car and 11 x 3 car units to start with to allow 16 x 7 car operation with 2 x 7 car spare and 1 x 3 car spare

Any word on 385101/385002 coming from Velum to Uk?

I would have thought a few completed units apart from the 2 on test in Scotland would have been delivered now to allow training of drivers, if full electric service on E&G goes ahead in December

385103 which arrived from Japan is fully completed and fitted out. The ones been assembled at Aycliffe, will also be fully fitted out.
It is just the ones on test that are not fitted, and will be retrospectively fitted once all testing has been completed.

Absolutely no idea. I visited factory last week, up to T14 were visable in production. Couldn't see in to Test shop so no idea if any Aycliffe ones are completed yet.

From what I see, it looks like there have been slight changes to the seating layout than what's down on the seating plans themselves.

The first coach of the next complete train built in Japan arrived at Aycliffe today from storage at Tees Dock. 444104 part of 385104.

Blimey the reverse of the current trend to remove unit numbers from the front of the unit and putting it on the side.

385101 was seen today on test between Chemnitz and Tharandt (that's a normal t, not a th), Germany.

If that is your own website, then there is some incorrect info regarding the 385 cab and it's restricted views. The internal CCTV monitors have nothing to do with the view to the right. They are for the Driver Only Operation body side cameras.

The complaints about the restricted views have been ongoing since the 380 was introduced and unfortunately the people who drive these trains get ignored when their views are sought as it doesn't fit with what Transport Scotland pen pushers want.

You have made this point many times and I know that it's a view shared by many train drivers. But equally is there any evidence, perhaps within HMRI/RSSB reports, that the restricted view has any effect on safety? Has ASLE&F ever made representations at a high level on the matter? Or does it, in the end, just boil down to a preference for a wider angle view of the world while doing your job.

An alternative view could also be put forward that the restricted view is an aid to preventing drivers from becoming unnecessarily distracted. Again, has this ever come up in any industry publication or guidelines?

It's also worth pointing out that half-width cabs with restricted views have been a fact of life on parts of the rail network, especially in 3rd rail territory, for many, many years.
