The 170 middle cars to XC, who I heard would then give LM the remaining 2 car ones as XC then wouldn't need 2x170 on some diagrams
That would actually be a really good idea! After some headscratching over what the London Midland fleet is going to look like once the 172s are delivered and the 170/6 centre cars have gone, I was suddenly worried about issues with 2 carriage Turbos on the Birmingham to Hereford/Shrewbury runs, those trains get busy even with a three car unit. If LM get the remaining 6(?) XC two car 170s, that would solve some problems.
It would make sense that EMT would get the 153s, although thinking about it, the Birmingham-Rugeley service would be largely unchanged by the new 172 delivery so there would still be a need for 153s on that route at least.
