The statement on the First TPE site says that no agreement was made and the talks were to resume again.....unless I have read it wrongly.
Blimey, was that decision expected or have FTPE crumbled under pressure?
ASLEF have total power to shut the system down, as they all stick together.
You mess with ASLEF at your peril.
If what you say above is true, why did they state that they were to hold a 2-day strike as a mark of the strength of feeling amongst their membership on the issue in question, which really would have pressed home the point that they were making to First TPE management, then seem to back down from this position after only one day's action, which does not tally with the original strike decision.
It is stated that no increased offer had been made after the first days strike, so surely the second days strike should have been allowed to take place, in order that the union leadership could be seen as acting in the best interest of their members to actually receive a better pay offer from First TPE.
Just arrived home after a meeting. My wife tells me she heard that the ASLEF drivers have been offered 5% and this is being put to a ballot...but she says that she cannot remember where she heard this.
Can someone clarify this, please.

Do you think management should have held out since as many have mentioned, train driving isn't highly skilled and they are already very well paid?
My word, what a statement.train driving isn't highly skilled a
My word, what a statement.
Right tomorrow we'll give you control of a 125mph Pendolino, in foggy, and damp conditions, with leaf fall mulsh everywhere whilst we ask you to name all the signals, junctions, shunts, braking points, rules, regulations, protection.....I could go on.....so good luck with that.

Not codswallop, ANG. That's why we always end up back at it. You can confuse some of the people some of the time with meaningless bull about psychometric failures and massive responsibility, but the truth will out in the end.
The ludicrous salaries paid to drive a train compared to what most folk in responsible positions get paid are the product of a temprary situation brought about by the TOCs themselves. They won't live with it for ever.
Thats easy. Just put it on Autopilot like all the poor under paid Airline Captains do![]()

185, if you didn't have a Driver the Guard wouldn't have a job.
Oh course the highest wage should go to the guard, who is in charge of the train

I'm all for COO. It's a bit similar to DOO.
But knowing FirstGroup, they'd try use the passengers...

Well the Guard can't drive the train!
