I’m very pleased they have avoided the immediate Christmas and NYE period so peoples’ festive travel plans won’t be spoiled.

That will be my final word on this thread ;).

I suspect public opinion of ruining Christmas and the fact their members would lose too money is the reason.

They are effectively 5 days as I doubt you are going to get much of a service on the middle day.

After the breakdown in talks yesterday, this was pretty much expected. Interesting choice of days, wonder if ASLEF will be filling in the gaps. <D

Not quite - Unite are out at our place 23rd/24th December - that'll trash it pretty fundamentally anyway

Wow! That’s one way to upset your own members, lose pay and not be allowed to scrape some of it back. Well,at least Mick Lynch still gets paid. How about a years free RMT membership and some strike pay please?

Interesting they have gone down the 48 hour strikes with a day apart this time.
Rather than 3x 24 hour strikes with a day in the middle (ie Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday).

Maybe it's then trying something new, rather than the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

This will serve only to polarise the workforce, between those fortunate enough to be able to afford to hemorrhage money right on top of Christmas, and those who can't. The RMT leadership has just departed the real world. Very possibly the beginning of the end for them I would think.

I'm booked to travel 6 and 8th of December. I've been dreading what they were going to announce in case it spoiled my plans. Looks like I dodged a bullet and will be ok.....for that journey at least.

I think the 48 hour strikes are one thing but overtime ban might be something the leadership may have to recede on just because of the financial impact.

Interestingly, Mick Lynch is meeting with the Transport Secretary this week so clearly both unions and DfT do see eye to eye.

The point of calling strikes is to try and get the employer to cancel them by making a better offer. Stepping up the ante is entirely appropriate.

If they want to strike they can strike but that stunt last time was out of order. Cancelling last minute so staff didnt lose pay but the trains didnt run anyway.

At least they've confirmed that.with a new wave of strikes already.

Indeed, it's just putting a lot of pressure on it's members like myself who are now having to plan to lose 6 day's pay across Jan/Feb pay. There will be some who decide this is just too much to lose

I'm sure it's just coincidence that the strikes are on the World Cup semi final dates with an overtime ban for the final itself.

I have planned to travel on the 17th for a night race to Brighton.

Will I be able to travel on the limited strike day service? Will there be overnight trains to get me home on the 18th early morning?

Deafening cheers heard from the offices of FlixBus, National Express, Megabus, Service Stations, Car Park owners and private hire coach companies up and down the land

Folk will find another way and they won't come back.
