We could look at how other countries have managed to reduce single-use plastic packaging, and see if their measures could work here. Continuing to cover our countryside and towns with drifts of discarded bottles and cans doesn't seem like a great alternative.

Well, the carrier bag charge (which prompted this part of the discussion) seems to have been quite effective. Not perfect but much better.And let us hope it never comes, as it will likely be simplistic, behavioural, and stifle real technological solutions.
