Heighington?
I'll have to give you that although Broad Green also claims the title!

I've tried to do some research and it may be that Heighington wasn't a passenger station upon the opening of the Stockton and Darlington railway but I can't find anything totally confirming this (or not as the case may be).

So over to you.

Railway Passenger Station in Great Britain: a Chronology by Michael Quick (on the rchs website) is your best source. Have a look at 1825 in Section 5 on page 502 for the explanation as to why I think it is probably North Road.

It was literally gut instinct and I have no idea whether it has the best claim to the throne, so I'd feel a bit bad for taking that. Open floor.

I've looked at the document and can't see a specific reference to North Road.
I have also seen 1833, 1842 and 1856 quoted as the opening dates so there is clearly some confusion.
I think in view of this it is probably best to declare Open Floor.

Since I said North Riad, I'll step in...

Staying in Darlington, what is the (no longer official) full name of the main station?
