No I’m afraid not. I can’t think of anymore clues to give. If anyone wants to Google it then feel free!

The Age of Steam,Crowlas. Thank you Cornish Railway Society website :D . TBH I’d never heard of it. I hope this is right?

Phew. I was starting to sweat there…

We used to go to The Age of Steam all the time when I was little and I only remembered about it recently.

Anyway enough of that.

Over to you @Ashley Hill :)

Thanks.

How many British railway stations were named after Queen Victoria and in which towns/cities were/are they located?

(for avoidance of doubt, I'm just looking for stations named "Victoria" or "Xxxxx Victoria" and not the likes of "Victoria Docks", "Victoria Park", etc.)

OK....so we now have all seven. Technically speaking, @xotGD got the highest number, but I suspect that @Peterthegreat and @Cowley also will have known the first four, so I'm minded to give it to @Cowley for getting the last one. Any objections from the other two?

Oh don’t know if I can take that @D6130. I’m happy to pass it on (partly because I’m a bit busy at the moment).

No objections from me. Although I will add that I did think of Southend while making a cup of coffee!

I don't have a question in mind so happy for @Peterthegreat to take the floor.

I thought there would hae been more (obscure) stations with Victoria as a suffix so I did a bit of online research and came across three possible others (depending on how you interpret the original question!
1) Victoria (Blaenau) - the original name for the current station of Ebbw Vale Parkway
2) Hull Victoria Dock (open 1853 to 1864) was also known as Hull Victoria
3) Cork Victoria - on the Cork and Muskerry Light Railway (open 1887 to 1934) would technically have been "British"* on opening.

* This is not meant to start a debate on the status of Southern Ireland at the time.

There was also Barnstaple Victoria Road, I’m clutching at straws now though.

One that few are likely to know the answer to, but where a bit of lateral thinking might help.

In 1956 British Railways rebuilt two ex-LNER Diagram 195 vacuum-braked ventilated vans (‘box van’/‘vanfit’) by replacing the plywood panels on the sides and doors with toughened clear Perspex. Why?

To show how a potential motorail coach might work maybe?
