Here's a brief bit of old RailUK favourite Letter by Letter. Which currently-closed station is this?

My first is in all sorts of North British stops,
Like Bowland and Bervie, not Gullane, but Stobs;
My second's chiefly on the Caledonian Railway,
In Craigo and Comrie, but not in Wamphray;
My third's in Kittybrewster, not Strichen or Fyvie;
My fourth's not in Loudounhill, but in Pier, Fairlie;
My fifth is in Tollcross and Gorbals, you say;
My whole used to be on the Highland Railway.

How did you get that straight away, It is Staines West!

This may sound a bit weird but there was an editorial piece in Model Rail many years back in which Staines West was mentioned and the photo of the wall and buffers looked exactly like that, hence why I guessed at Staines West.

Hopefully a straightforward question, what was unusual about the air braking system of the intial batch of Northern Ireland Railways Mk2b coaches (and 80 Class DEMUs) compared to the British Rail twin-pipe system?

Not quite no, but the colours for the pipes were different.

It is to do with the brake pipes but the colours is only part of it and not actually the answer I was after, sorry.

Seeing as this seems to have stalled a bit, I would like to add that the answer I'm after is not to do with the colour of the brake pipes but rather the pipes themselves.

Twin-pipe is:
Red - brake pipe
Yellow - main reservoir

The NIR 3-pipe was:
Green - straight air pipe
Yellow - main reservoir pipe
Red - emergency pipe

Duddington was the driver of the Mallard when the world steam speed record was set, so I would guess that Sparshatt was his fireman that day?

Joe Duddington drove Mallard when she attained 126 mph and William Sparshatt was Flying Scotsman's driver when she hit the 'ton' (100 mph).

Thomas Bray was Duddington's fireman.
