Strange because I also observed the opposite, no or very delayed replays of crucial moments and also getting results seems to take a long time.

Seems not. I just watched the Skeet shooting judges deny a possible gold medal to Amber Rutter when she, the crowd and a TV replay indicated that she did not miss the shot that lost her the gold.

Amusingly, this pool is considered ‘slow’ compared to a normal Olympic swimming pool because it’s more shallow than usual.
It’s only 2.15m deep, whereas the recommended depth is 3m. Deeper water means you don’t get the turbulence reflecting back off the bottom interfering as much.
It’s a temporary structure built in a stadium that usually stages rugby matches.

Maybe that is why I noticed internal reflections from the water surface of swimmers when underwater as shown by a camera in the pool, I don't recall that being so obvious before.

No longer accurate to refer to something’s volume in units based on so many ”Olympic sized swimming pools“ then…

though, was a better attempt at wiping the rain off the waterproof camera covers! For an event with this profile, having half the shot obscured by water droplets isn't really acceptable. Naturally you can't do a perfect job when it's raining that much, but to be perfectly honest the rain droplets made it look pretty amateurish.

Given that camera rain deflectors are very much a thing it's a bit disappointing! Camera switches are pre-planned so all they could likely do on the day is a quick wipe with a microfibre cloth when the camera isn't live.

My favourite bit (which will come as no surprise to anyone who knows me) was the light display on the Eiffel tower. I would love to be able to play with that sort of lighting! A somewhat unique canvas to turn into a brilliant display. This particular bit was enhanced by the rain, which acts like haze (if anything was better) and really accentuates the light beams.

Laser Systems Europe did lasers using normal 40W and 60W units, some Robe iBolt fixtures have been spotted as well.

They also seemed to have hired in the entire French stock of these https://www.chauvetprofessional.com/products/color-strike-m/ (or similar fixtures) for the path between the Louvre and the balloon/cauldron.

The ColorStrike M dominates the strobe market now the Martin Atomic 3000 is pretty old so rental houses have a lot of them. And, importantly, the ColorStrike M is IP65 rated.

In the case of the opening ceremony, there were multiple issues with this - first, many of the shots were planned to be long single shots (such as the circular sweep of the piano / singer during the Imagine bit); secondly - many of the cameras were remote and didn't have people adjacent to give them a quick wipe; and finally - the operators that did have cloths with them to wipe lenses quickly ran out of dry bits - once you're just smearing the water around you're just making things worse. In normal programming, you'd always have somewhere nearby to keep dry things, but when you're on a river, for four hours, covering several miles, you don't have that option.

For many events the worst costume I can remember.
It is almost as if they spent all their energy on the clothes worn outside of actual competition.

Great win for Keely Hodgkinson in the 800m, she led from the front for almost all the race. It comes 20 years after Kelly Holmes won 800m Gold in Athens in 2004.

Another world record for Armond Duplantis, if he goes much higher they will need to build a new Pole Vault stand.

I don’t understand why the medal table is basically based on number of Gold Medals. If one country has one gold but no other medals they are higher than another country with no gold but numerous silver and/or bronze.

Maybe the medal table should be on a points system, say Gold=5, Silver=3, Bronze=1

I don’t watch boxing, but I was seeing a lot of noise on social media regarding the quality of the judging, or rather the lack of it.

Caught the finish of the Women’s 10 kilometre swim in the Seine. The winning time was just over 2 hours. Very impressive for 6+ miles in real money. However for a spectator sport it’s ranks alongside watching traffic lights change.
