Just been watching some of the hockey. After 10 minutes I realised that for most of it I hadn’t a clue where the ball was. Maybe if it was the size of a football and fluorescent pink I’d have a chance

Strange because I also observed the opposite, no or very delayed replays of crucial moments and also getting results seems to take a long time. For every event on the track we have to have 10+ replays!
Just show one. We don’t need multi angle slow motion each way but loose.
Has VAR been transferred to the Olympics?Strange because I also observed the opposite, no or very delayed replays of crucial moments and also getting results seems to take a long time.
Seems not. I just watched the Skeet shooting judges deny a possible gold medal to Amber Rutter when she, the crowd and a TV replay indicated that she did not miss the shot that lost her the gold.Has VAR been transferred to the Olympics?
Amusingly, this pool is considered ‘slow’ compared to a normal Olympic swimming pool because it’s more shallow than usual.Watching the swimming the wife has asked if they put anything in the water to make it thinner to help them go faster! She says it looks different to the water in our local pool.
No longer accurate to refer to something’s volume in units based on so many ”Olympic sized swimming pools“ then…Amusingly, this pool is considered ‘slow’ compared to a normal Olympic swimming pool because it’s more shallow than usual.
It’s only 2.15m deep, whereas the recommended depth is 3m. Deeper water means you don’t get the turbulence reflecting back off the bottom interfering as much.
It’s a temporary structure built in a stadium that usually stages rugby matches.
Given that camera rain deflectors are very much a thing it's a bit disappointing! Camera switches are pre-planned so all they could likely do on the day is a quick wipe with a microfibre cloth when the camera isn't live.though, was a better attempt at wiping the rain off the waterproof camera covers! For an event with this profile, having half the shot obscured by water droplets isn't really acceptable. Naturally you can't do a perfect job when it's raining that much, but to be perfectly honest the rain droplets made it look pretty amateurish.
There's some detail on this Reddit thread. Unsurprisingly most major rental firms have been contacted to get enough waterproof lights for the 12km of waterfront, lights are mostly from Ayrton, Robe, and Elation. Laser Systems Europe did lasers using normal 40W and 60W units, some Robe iBolt fixtures have been spotted as well.My favourite bit (which will come as no surprise to anyone who knows me) was the light display on the Eiffel tower. I would love to be able to play with that sort of lighting! A somewhat unique canvas to turn into a brilliant display. This particular bit was enhanced by the rain, which acts like haze (if anything was better) and really accentuates the light beams.
[nerdy technical bit] I'm pretty confident the bright beam lights on the tower were laser-based, rather than LED, probably something like this: https://www.claypaky.it/products/skylos/, although they could have been less exciting discharge fixtures
The ColorStrike M dominates the strobe market now the Martin Atomic 3000 is pretty old so rental houses have a lot of them. And, importantly, the ColorStrike M is IP65 rated. They also seemed to have hired in the entire French stock of these https://www.chauvetprofessional.com/products/color-strike-m/ (or similar fixtures) for the path between the Louvre and the balloon/cauldron.

Ah yes, the venerable (original) Atomic 3000 - I've put 4 in a room that really didn't need 4!The ColorStrike M dominates the strobe market now the Martin Atomic 3000 is pretty old so rental houses have a lot of them. And, importantly, the ColorStrike M is IP65 rated.
Well my brother in law in Manila Carlos needs to get out there! Those who share the same name as Yulo are also in luck, as celebrations sweep the country. Cafes and restaurants have offered free meals or milkshakes to anyone named Carlos, Caloy (his nickname) or Edriel (his middle name), while a music venue offered free entry over the weekend to anyone whose name began with C.
In the case of the opening ceremony, there were multiple issues with this - first, many of the shots were planned to be long single shots (such as the circular sweep of the piano / singer during the Imagine bit); secondly - many of the cameras were remote and didn't have people adjacent to give them a quick wipe; and finally - the operators that did have cloths with them to wipe lenses quickly ran out of dry bits - once you're just smearing the water around you're just making things worse. In normal programming, you'd always have somewhere nearby to keep dry things, but when you're on a river, for four hours, covering several miles, you don't have that option.Camera switches are pre-planned so all they could likely do on the day is a quick wipe with a microfibre cloth when the camera isn't live.

For many events the worst costume I can remember.I appreciate that over the years the Great Britain & Northern Ireland Olympic clothing has had many designs, but it’s always (as far as I remember) been a mixture of red, white & blue. For these Olympics it looks all black although I think it’s actually dark navy. For the first week it’s been so confusing to me. God knows who I’ve been cheering for![]()
And set a new world record in every round.Team Sprint for the women in the cycling - absolutely brilliant win.
I don’t blame them. If you had the choice you wouldn’t watch BBCThe BBC cutting to a live feed of Keely's athletic club was priceless. Absolutely no reaction, probably watching Eurosport

I don’t understand why the medal table is basically based on number of Gold Medals. If one country has one gold but no other medals they are higher than another country with no gold but numerous silver and/or bronze.Team USA are only 1 Gold Medal behind China and I think that'll be beaten soon. Team GB should be able to climb to third as well.
In the USA some broadcasters rank by total medals and you find people asking the opposite question to that above.I don’t understand why the medal table is basically based on number of Gold Medals. Maybe the medal table should be on a points system, say Gold=5, Silver=3, Bronze=1
I don’t watch boxing, but I was seeing a lot of noise on social media regarding the quality of the judging, or rather the lack of it.The Team GB boxing performance has been seemingly below par. One bronze medal.
