Was passed on a bus by a Rolls Royce the other day... Looked at the reg, went on my phone and discovered a first registry entry of 24th September 1929

Just think what you would see if you lived near Jay Leno, he drives all his old cars regularly, even the steam powered ones!

I did see a K11 Micra a while ago which piqued my interest as it had a dealer sticker for Olds Nissan Weymouth whereas I've only known the Nissan dealer to be in Dorchester. Looked very tidy.

Saw a number of ‘turn of the century’ cars this morning (19th-20th Century). Living on the route of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run probably helps!

Edit - I see the above poster beat me to the ‘joke’!

G plate (August 1968 - July 1969) MK2 Ford Cortina saloon that looked relatively original. I wonder across the UK how many are still roadworthy?

There is a bloke who lives around the corner from me who has one of a similar vintage (well not seen the plates but its a mark 2 anyway). It looks road worthy so there must be at least 2.

Another once very common car, now seldom seen on the road, a late 1982 (Y suffix) Austin Metro seen today in Horley.

Wow that’s an early one too, they only came out in late 1980 (W reg).

An old Y reg Rolls-Royce Corniche, looked resplendent with it's red paint work and tan soft top.

1965 'C' reg Volvo Amazon Estate today, we passed in opposite directions on a bend so no chance to see its condition, it's lasted a damned sight longer than my 65 Cortina Mk1 did, my second Volvo sighting in two days after a P1800 in Brighton yesterday, no chance to see the plate though

Morris Minor in Worcester earlier today, seems the kind of place you'd expect to see one really!

Today's "find": October 1991 registered Mercedes 300 coupe in fine fettle. Same era as post 156's "baby Merc" and quite a contrast to its coupe predecessor on post 198.

Oh that's in such glorious condition 8-) I haven't seen a Mk1 Consul coupe for many years.
Last Sunday, I passed a very tidy Mk2 Granada Ghia in north Chichester.

Branded a Consul, if my memory is correct. Dropped for the Mk2 Granada release.
Vauxhall/Opel made a similar sized coupe - branded Royale in UK market.
The one pictured was badged as a Granada Ghia - I didn't recognise the car so had to look at the name!

There are pictures of similar looking cars on the internet with both Consul and Granada badges. Maybe depends on model year/market/engine size?

If the article on Wikipedia is to be believed (usual caveats), the lower spec models were branded Consuls while the Granada name was used at the higher end of the range. I'd imagine that the coupé would have been a higher spec to start with.

At first, lower models in the range were called the Ford Consul. This may have been because of a lawsuit by Granada Group, a major British conglomerate of the time; however, their application for an injunction failed at appeal and they could not prevent Ford from registering the name Granada as a trademark[6] thus from 1975 on they were all called Granadas.

My grandfather had a Consul with the V4 engine in the late 70s (I think it carried an M suffix) and I've always liked the mk1 shape.

A friend of mine has two cars, an Austin A60, and a Talbot alpine fastback coupe, which he is rebuilding, quite a rare car now,
My daily driver falls slightly out of the date, but it's getting rarer, and has now reached modern classic status, MGtf 115 in trophy blue, 70.000 miles.

J-prefix (91-92) Renault 5 Campus, rusty and looked like a daily driver for the owner’s local trips.

After the Clio was introduced, Renault continued to make the supercinq 5 for a few years in basic trim as the Campus, as a budget option.

Couple yesterday, G reg Mini and an E reg soft top cabriolet Mercedes (not that familiar with Mercs, looked maybe C class size).

Not really the weather for the Merc at the moment!

Interestingly Renault later did a similar thing with the Clio, releasing the Clio campus as a budget model after the release of the new Clio.

Also seen yesterday was a Reliant Robin LX, possibly N reg.

Edit: just seen a tidy Mercedes 190 E on a H plate.

When you think about the number of older cars still in regular use, clearly, it's still economic to run an older car, can we discuss that, or does it need a new thread ?
