Also Daniel, what stage are you at under "My Applications" on the Northern site? Still New Submitted Application?

I did email Northern last week to query the situation for those that have already passed the Visual Test, but predictably no response as yet. Can't be believe I'm back to obsessively checking my inbox multiple times a day.

Hi mate, yes still at new submitted application. I suppose we'll find out shortly after that, I did get to interview last time, but got a no, so I'm unsure as to how I'll get on.

Tell me about it, I've got applications all over the show at the minute so every email is greeted with excitement/fear only to find it's the latest advert for another exciting rock bottom price sale.

So strange, I was following your progress on old threads last night, I had no idea you had gotten to the assessments for Wigan. Was really sorry to read that you didn't pass. Guess that puts us both in the same boat once again.

We'll get there mate, learn from previous mistakes and improve.

Cheers mate, it was a right old kick in the 'wotnots'!! I did really well with everything apart from the Mechanical tests which prevented me from having the S.I. Needless to say that drive home was awful knowing I was in touching distance from a whole change to me and my families future that I was totally gutted.

Anyway, you live and you learn. Next time around I am confident that I'll do well (with everything crossed!!) and we'll both be doing what we really want to do.

I remember the feeling well Neil and not one I intend to experience again.

I've applied for Picc this time round, in all honesty I have no preference with regards which depot I work at. It's a difficult career to get into as it is, without worrying about location you are based at.

Hi guys, I'm new here. I've been interested in becoming a train driver for a few years, but only now my wife is back in full time work is it possible for me to take a bit of a drop in pay to do the training.

Anyway, I applied for this position and did my online visual comparison test on Sunday afternoon. I wanted to be certain that I got 100% correct so I took my time with it, but as a result I only got through about 30 screens. Seems like everyone else got through 50 or more so I'm a little disheartened and obviously anxious to find out whether I passed.

I noticed some people got instant emails to say they passed... am I right to assume that I've failed if I haven't heard anything yet?

I got through about 43 and don't think this has cut the mustard. Hope I'm wrong, I wasn't aware people received instant e mails notifying them of a pass. Could anyone please confirm that this is the case.

Sorry Phil, they looking for the combination of speed/accuracy on this one. Around 50 with no errors would give you a pass on this one.

Oh I didn't realise people had already heard back about the visual comparison for the Manchester position. I assumed we wouldn't hear until at least Thursday because of the closing date for visual comparison tests. I got over 50 and pretty sure I had no mistakes so it'd be gutting to not get a pass on it.

I completed the visual comparison tests for the Blackpool depot on the 4th of February, and I haven't heard back. I know rail companies often work slowly but hearing others have got response emails is getting me worried! If I can ask, who else here who applied for the Blackpool depot has/hasn't heard back? Thanks!

Just to clarify, if you haven't read my earlier posts I took the visual online a few weeks ago for a different role, so have no need to take it again. They did however reply to me as soon as possible after I took that test.

If that's for me mate then yes I did, but read my earlier post because the first time round when I applied at Northern I didn't or maybe missed it. Best thing to do is log in and check the website because it will be there if they've asked you to take the test.

I got 60 and didnt know you got a reply to say you had passed, i know conductors do but as far as drivers i thought you had to wait till after end date which is today i have checked i got an email to say they had received my completed test but didnt say if i had passed or failed and according to website it just says i have taken the test so im not going to panic i dont know if different roles are being mixed up good luck everyone fingers crossed should be long now till we know x

I applied for a shunters job at Stockport then the trainee drivers job a week later . I have done the visual comparison test for the driver and pretty sure I have failed it . Can anyone tell me if you have to take the same test for shunter and if so would they offer me the same test again or does the fail ruin my chances for the shunter job as well. Cheers

I applied for a shunters job at Stockport then the trainee drivers job a week later . I have done the visual comparison test for the driver and pretty sure I have failed it . Can anyone tell me if you have to take the same test for shunter and if so would they offer me the same test again or does the fail ruin my chances for the shunter job as well. Cheers

I've just checked my emails from last time and as a guide I was sent another email 3 days after this one asking me to attend an interview, it could be completely different this time around, but just thought I'd share my past experience.

Hi Bev, the salary is around £27k, But the job is classed as semi-skilled, carrying out basic maintenance.

Didnt realise they were on that much, very easy job for that amount of money, compared to the complexity of a Driver Operators job at Newton Heath for not a huge amount more.

Basic maintenance will simply be tanking units. Both refilling toilet water tanks, and sucking the crap out of CET tanks.
