Well that’s the official unit plan for when it opens. I trust the person implicitly who has done the detailed work on this (since the start of the planning for this around 3 years ago).
I do wonder if it isn't worth a gentle prod though just to point out that whatever information they've been given, I'm sure in good faith, appears to clash with what Network Rail are actually talking about seeing built in their application documents with the relevant planning authority. Which you would hope would be accurate considering who they're being put in front of!

I wonder if perhaps there has been some level of disconnection here between the engineering side that Network Rail are working on in terms of getting the facility build, and the planning side of Northern who are doing the unit plan? I feel as if perhaps that has happened to end up in the situation where planning seem to be coming up with a plan for the depot which the documentation shows physically cannot accommodate the number of units suggested. Feels like all it needs is someone in Northern to ping an email over to Network Rail just to clarify the usable length of the various depot roads that Network Rail are building?

But then I'm just a humble passenger... ;)

The people doing the unit planning are working off NwR plans with proper schematic planning processes as I hope you would expect.

Fair doos! But what NwR sent to Bradford Council doesn't seem to match with what Northern are planning. Guess we'll find out in due course :)

The plan we’ve got is a bit more detailed than the one shown in the diagram. For a start it doesn’t show the headshunt which is able to stable a 6 car set.

If you're using a "headshunt" for stabling, by definition it isn't a headshunt; its a stabling siding. Given the layout if you rule the headshunt out you'll need a mainline driver to move a unit into the depot building...

Sorry you obviously know how the depot is going to work. I’ll just ask my colleague to scrap all of their 3 years of planning and pass it on to the forum experts shall I?

I shall say no more on this depot or indeed any other plans for Northern’s future (and it is pretty exciting stuff moving at a rapid pace ) and you can all speculate until the official announcements come out like everybody else.

Was going to ask if the new units will be using the depot, but thanks to another forum member spoiling it for the rest of us, looks like we won't be getting any answers.

What a very constructive reply. Perhaps your colleague needs to have a conversation with the laws of physics?

Even if the headshunt will be 10 cars long (which Google maps doesn't seem to support), allowing for 6 cars to be stabled in the headshunt *and* 4 cars to reverse, that still only gets you to 10 units rather than the 12 you're claiming.

And if you ignore the findings of the RAIB's Tyseley report.

If you mean the 331s, see post #62 (official) and #86: it's yes (and it would be ridiculous not to).

Presume they mean the as-yet-confirmed legacy fleet replacement rather than 331s.

Hadn't thought of that! But as the 333s aren't yet 30 years old, it's premature to think about them, and as it's an EMU depot I would be surprised if the replacement diesel/battery/bionic duckweed/hydrogen units showed regularly.

(Bradford only sees one booked DMU a day, on the 0608 Leeds-Bradford-Carnforth.)

The depot has now received planning approval from Bradford Council;

Shipley rail depot to be built on former Crossley Evans site.

A £100 million rail depot in Shipley has been given the green light by planners.

The new electric train care depot was announced by then rail minister Huw Merriman in March and will be built next to Shipley rail station, on the former Crossley Evans scrapyard site. Plans to construct the huge buildings associated with the depot have now been approved by Bradford Council.
It means the scheme, one of the biggest developments currently planned for the district, can now go ahead.
The huge facility, expected to be completed by 2027, would bring more than 90 jobs to the town and be known as the Shipley TrainCare Centre.

I’ve just passed the former scrapyard and the other shunter (the blue one) is being cut on site and has been reduced to its frames.
Is 01 507 the green Ruston & Hornsby 0-6-0 diesel-electric - almost identical to the BR class 07 - which is currently parked under one of the arches of the road overbridge?

I read somewhere a suggestion that the 158s for Carlisle-Lancaster direction could refuel at Shipley - is it going to have a refuelling facility?

I was on the A3 going over the bridge earlier and similarly looked like progress was continuing well. Doesn’t look like it is too far off of starting to build a stabling point.
The clearing continues on the new traincare depot.
One of the locos.blue Hunslet 0-4-0 diesel-hydraulic (W/No.7159 of 1969) previously worked for Bradford Corporation, Esholt Sewage Works was been scrapped on site last week. I tried to take a pic from.the train. Its been slowly dismantled over the last week.
My pics are from July and August.

Thanks for the photos. Does anyone know what is happening/has happened with/to the two long-out-of-use Ruston & Hornsby four wheel chain-drive shunters that have been quietly rusting away covered by trees and bushes for the past 35-40 years?
