I think by the time you've got round to modifying a PPM to be suitable to take over from a Pacer then you might as well have just bought something that was already designed for the role.
I would be surprised if it would fit in the UK loading gauge.
Technically, no! Great Britain is a geographical name for the island that consists of England, Scotland and Wales - plus associated small islands like the Hebrides, Isle of Wight etc. The UK (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) is the name of our nation state. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are not countries, but 'states within the UK - a bit like Bavaria and Lower Saxony are states in Germany. Second thoughts, I suppose it depends what one means by 'country' !Britain is a group of islands, and it is actually made up of 4 countries (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland.)

And, just to stir up some controversy, Wales and NI have never had independent status as "countries" or "states"Technically, no! They have been shopping round for a couple of years the PPM175 concept. Similar capacity to a 153, 5 meters longer, 30cm thinner with 5-15 extra seats. Though with only a 50mph max speed that severely limits applications.
Edit: Just looked the company up, market capitalisation of 0.79m, but from its last balance sheet its very close to insolvency, higher debts falling due within 1 year (£1m) than its assets (450k) and cash in the bank (just £3000).
Although its likely that a PPM could replace a Pacer, realistically it aint gonna happen is it?
The fleet of Pacers are still effectively fulfilling their purpose, They don't constantly suffer overcrowding, .
Yes they do. Look at Manchester Victoria / Salford Crescent during peak hours. Look at Liverpool Lime St. arrivals & departures at peak hours, and even off-peak on many days (especially during school holidays)

If they built any more of those **** pacers, I shall be absolutely furious as they are terrible! Bombardier or Siemens would be a good choice as they can actually build trains.

It seems to me that now people on here are just assuming that pacers are no good because other users say they are. I'm also sure there are people on here complaining about them who live in places which are not blessed with Pacers or have never actually travelled on one.
Oh yeah 'cos Voyagers are brilliant.

Just a thought.

However for some of us we rarely travel on anything but daily pacers, only the odd sprinter and perhaps once or twice a year a 185 or a pendolino.
Oh the joys of living on the Cumbrian coast! (I'm guessing thats where you are by the trains you use, am I right?)
Commute daily Wigan-Manchester
