Can we agree that it's plain unfair for some customers, through no fault of theirs, to be paying more than others?
I don't agree, people have the ultimate choice , to buy or not to buy.I don't believe that the vast majority of commuters won't have the best deal available.
Granted , casual walk-up travellers will have to rely on the ticket office but most vendors will look at options for them.
Life is a basket of anomalies and we all live with them. You're making ticket-splitting sound like MPs'expense fiddling , it is not.
It is a simple case of "willing seller/willing buyer" .
The press think it's unfair on customers , fine, that sells papers , they have highlighted it , everyone's aware of it and we'll see if anything is done. I already have my answer , it won't be.
I'm not a frequent traveller but do maybe 50/70 trips a year.
I don't actively seek split tickets because I have a feel of what a "price for the journey" is.
It's only when that seems out of kilta that I look for alternatives , it's called initiative. One thing is certain , I've never travelled without a valid ticket.
I've also never travelled without researching the cost beforehand.
Having said all that, I've had a look at the journey I make most regularly and I can save 10% by splitting !!!!! and that's the same train with the same TOC.
The reason is that part of my journey becomes "Super off-peak"
I radically diasgree with your moral standpoint. It doesn't have any substance .It's entirely in the hands of the TOCs and thanks for saving me a few more quid !
