Since this thread has long lost steam, I'll just add that shandy is an insult to beer, and any argument which evokes it should as such be discounted ;)

Sainsburys currently have a deal on.

One Colgate mouthwash is £3.29, or 2 for £3.00.

I suppose it was immoral for me to buy two, because some people would have bought one and paid more.

Just thought I'd jump on the nonsensical analogy trend which is fast becoming a trademark of this forum :p

With great sadness I have to agree.
Regretably.

We get attempts at analogies with chocolate bars, canned fizzy poison, air travel, supermarket promotions and hotel bookings. But never have I seen any of these provide helpful illustrations to the matter being discussed.
Of greater concern, I suspect that often these analogies mislead, misinform and confuse, not only the OP, but other regular posters on here - and that does worry me. The number of untrained and non-expert people here who appear to repeat misinformation for no reason other than having previously read the error on here or elsewhere, is likely to bring this forum into disrepute.

Well, "an internet forum" is the modern equivalent of "a bloke in the pub told me..."

..... but, fortunately, the next morning you can't remember exactly what the bloke in the pub said, whereas on a forum his words are there in black and white (or whatever colours you prefer)

Disappointing that Dave didn't find my hotel analogy of a few months back helpful. I thought it was excellent ..... seemed to bring the thread to a close anyway :D

Isn't there's a difference between clear and simple choices displayed on a supermarket shelf and the wide range of possible splits for any journey that can't be meaningfully displayed? I've been educated and accept the validity of splitting though it's a shame it has to be such a lottery.

I wonder with Virgin's Railcard easement if ticket offices could and should offer splits on longer journeys to take full advantage or at least point it out. I wasn't aware of it a few years ago when I had to make some 'emergency' long trips and staff are usually kind to DSB holders, but it will probably be difficult to do on TVMs and JPs. Again I wish everyone happy splitting.

So is everybody agreed that regardless of who may or may not like it, split tickets are here for the forseeable future, and once people treat them like any other ticket with restrictions that everybody who choses to use them will be happy?

Good, if that's settled, lock the thread, and I'm off to bed. :D :-P

'Compostage', or validation is the industry answer to this issue.
