I see. Very rarely is there a difference in opposite directions. (I actually thought you meant Great Yarmouth when you said "both ways".)

Lowestoft - Norwich is 23m 41c, and Norwich - Wymondham is 11m 26c, so a total of 34m 67c for the through journey.

Norwich - Ely is 53m 59c, and Ely - Peterborough is 30m 44c, so Lowestoft - Peterborough is 107m 64c.

(Ely - Peterborough is 30m 40c if you go by the Sectional Appendix.)

1,735 miles is my total for 2014, which is down on 2013 by 639 miles.

Awesome, thanks CallySleeper - I'll add that lot in :)
Bit of a discrepancy between your figure for Green Park compared to mine and bb21's though, any ideas how that happened?
If anyone can trace the mileage for the Coventry ones that'd be good, between them that's almost a 200 mile chunk out of my mileage score ;)

Couple more have, needless to say cropped up - I hope railmiles does eventually come back!

Stratford - Leyton (Central, LUL)
Stratford - Leytonstone (Central, LUL)
Liverpool Street - Bethnal Green (Central, LUL)

That suggests CallySleeper's figure to be accurate, not ours - which i assume you also got from railmiles historically before it went down. Not too sure which to use, since all the rest of my figures came from railmiles anyway...

It's up to you really. For consistency I would stick with railmiles figures, but you could always use the WTT figure and put a note next to it, which is my preferred option when quoting figures from alternative sources.

That's what I think I'll do - it's not really a major issue, a few chains here and there but I've done the London Bridge - Oxford Circus via Green Park run several times in the past year so they add up ;) Almost there - going through October now! My journey spreadsheet for the unit mileage has 10 columns and 767 rows so far... lesson learned, don't leave it 6 months between updates!

I'm looking for help with the following:

Durham - Edinburgh Waverley
Carlisle - Oxenholme
Paddington - Exeter St Thomas
Exeter St thomas - Axminster

TIA

Since I'm feeling weirdly generous, I've just logged back into RailMiles to look these up for you! The answers are:

Durham - Edinburgh 138m40c
Carlisle - Oxenholme 50m01c
Paddington - Exeter St Thomas 175m22c (assumed direct down the Desert and via the Westbury avoider, you didn't specify anything different)
Exeter St Thomas - Axminster 28m45c
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
London Euston - Coventry (VT via Rugby)
Reading - Coventry (XC via Banbury)

Thanks again :D

Sam

I'm still feeling generous (anyone wishing to repay the favour, feel free to buy me a pint when you next see me!), so here we go:

Euston - Coventry 93m79c
Reading - Coventry 79m51c

NEXT! Oh, and feel free to drop these by PM and patiently await a reply, I don't always have the laptop and if I'm not online I won't get the PMs too quick. Since I'm one of what seems like a limited number of RM subscribers, I've the fortune to look these bits up!

Obviously don't take advantage!

2m69c according to RailMiles

"Route: London Bridge (Jubilee, LUL) to Green Park (Jubilee, LUL) 2mi 69ch - generated from your selection
London Bridge (Jubilee, LUL), Southwark (LUL), Waterloo (Jubilee, LUL), Westminster (Jubilee, LUL), Green Park (Jubilee, LUL)"

Could I be evil and ask for the mileage of the Virgin Blockade Buster from Euston to Coventry via Acton Main Line, South Greenford & High Wycombe?

Absolutely, on the condition that, should I ever make it down to the deep south you buy me a Costa coffee! ;) Bear with me a few minutes as this will be a complicated one!

EDIT: Huh, that was easier and quicker than I thought, 101m00c

Great stuff - sorry for them being so piecemeal, I realise I'm way over my 'quota' but I drop them in as they come up when totting up the mileage. Have done better than I thought as I'm well over 12k after only January-October's. Happy to organise a pint at a suitable venue! :D
Many thanks for the Coventry ones techniquest, that's all the big stuff cleared up I think!

West Brompton - Edgware Road (District, LUL)
Russell Square - Kings Cross St Pancras (Piccadilly, LUL)
Elephant & Castle - London Bridge (Northern, LUL)

Jeeeeeeeeesssssssssuuuuuuuuussssssss! There was me thinking Kite159's full list (done by PM) was a fair few, this is a LOT! I'll make a start on this lot, but if you're willing to wait I'll eventually get to the other lot if they're not already done. I do expect this lot to take at least 1 hour to do, which would have been mostly done by now but your post went up when I replied to Kite159 and missed it earlier! I'll be back in a few minutes with some answers!

Unfortunately I was a bit out of date with this lot and only typing them out do I realise what a PITA it is

Thanks for responses so far - I'll try grab some time on my lunch break to whip through them and update the list accordingly

Edit: Should have mentioned, I'm not to a timescale on these - will catch up with what I have any got quite a few light rail to do yet, so just whenever really - it is very much appreciated (but this may be the last year I do full mileages!)

Sonic 2 Bosses (extended version) music on to get me through it, so here we go! Answers in bold and in brackets:

Dewsbury to Brough (assuming via Leeds and on TPX, 50m33c)
Leeds to Burley Park (2m29c)
Ormskirk to Burscough Junction (2m48c)
Burscough Bridge to Wigan Wallgate (9m66c)
Wigan North Westerm to Lancaster (36m08c)
Lancaster to Silverdale (9m44c)
Carnforth to Lancaster (6m20c)
Lancaster to Bare Lane (2m46c)
Lancaster to Preston (20m71c)
Preston to Poulton-le-Fylde (14m24c)
Poulton-le-Fylde to Manchester Piccadilly (via Bolton, 45m67c)

OK slightly less time for that bit than expected, about 7 minutes. You lot don't want to know how weird and varied my YouTube Viewing History is tonight...

Crewe to Nantwich (4m37c)
Edinburgh Waverley - Glasgow QS (via Falkirk High) (47m23c)
Glasgow QS to Partick (from Low Level of course, 2m38c)
Partick to Glasgow Central (via Exhibition Centre) (to Low Level of course, 2m12c)
Glasgow QS to Livingston North (29m49c)
Livingston North to Haymarket (13m43c)
Haymarket to Glenrothes (via Rosyth) (30m28c)
Glenrothes to Haymarket (via Kirkcaldy) (29m36c)
Haymarket to Edinburgh Waverley (1m19c)
Edinburgh Waverley to Newcraighall (4m54c)
Haymarket to Edinburgh Park (3m50c)
Edinburgh Waverley to Drem (17m60c)
Edinburgh Waverley to Bathgate (18m53c)

In case it's not obvious, I've broken this lot up in sections to make it easier for me to process!

Bathgate to Partick (28m16c)
Glasgow Central to Edinburgh Waverley via Shotts (47m03c)
Edinburgh Waverley to Carstairs (28m17c)
Carstairs to Motherwell (assuming direct up the WCML, which SR trains are not normally, 15m65c. If via Wishaw, which most SR trains are normally, 15m66c. Yes, a whole chain difference, to my surprise too!)
Motherwell to Glasgow Central (Low Level) (you don't specify if you went straight up the WCML or not, which again most SR trains don't do (usually via Holytown or Airbles. Via Holytown, it's 15m40c. Via Airbles it's 13m67c)
Haymarket to Larbert (27m13c)
Larbert to Alloa (14m69c)
Alloa to Glasgow Queen Street (36m28c)
Glasgow Central to Whifflet (you don't mention from High or Low Level! From HL it's 11m14c, from LL it's 10m67c)
Whifflet to Coatbridge Central (0m60c)
Coatbridge Central to Cumbernauld (6m36c)
Coatbridge Sunnyside to Drumgelloch (3m19c)
Drumgelloch to Bathgate (13m28c)

*I should hope this lot is all appreciated so far ;)*

Approximately 30 minutes in already...

Altrincham to Manchester Piccadilly (via Stockport of course, 14m58c)
Castleton to Manchester Victoria (8m55c)
Manchester Victoria to Preston (30m73c)
Preston to Wigan North Western (15m17c)
Wigan Wallgate to Salford Crescent (16m13c)
Salford Crescent to Chorley (20m41c)
Chorley to Preston (8m53c)
Southport to Moorfields (19m70c)
Moorfields to Liverpool Central (0m60c - random note, there's a lot of 60c leaps in the UK!)
Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Victoria (via Hyuton) (31m50c)

40 minutes in...

Kings Cross to Paddington (H&C) (2m38c)
Paddington to Waterloo (Bakerloo) (3m48c)
London Waterloo to Clapham Junction (3m74c)
Clapham Junction to Feltham (assuming direct routing, 10m74c)
Clapham Junction to Surbiton (8m09c)
Clapham Junction to Upper Warlingham (12m60c)
Whyteleafe to Purley (2m45c)
Purley to East Croydon (3m01c)

Nearly there! Got right stuck into it, let's get it finished!

East Croydon to City Thameslink (via Elephant and Castle - any chance a route could be pasted if you have it - it was a bit convoluted!)

Your wish is my (and RailMiles!) command:

"Route: East Croydon to City Thameslink 10mi 69ch - generated from your selection
East Croydon, Norwood Junction, Bromley Jn, Crystal Palace, Gipsy Hill, West Norwood, Tulse Hill, Herne Hill, Loughborough Junction, Elephant & Castle, London Blackfriars, City Thameslink"

St Pauls to Liverpool Street (LUL) (0m73c)
Liverpool Street to Paddington (Circle) (4m50c)
London Paddington to West Drayton (13m12c)
West Drayton to Ealing Broadway (7m41c - I should hope you were enjoying your 165s and 166s while you still can in the Thames Valley!)
Ealing Broadway to Turnham Green (District) (2m78c)
Turnham Green - Richmond (District) (3m25c)
Richmond to Brondesbury (7m73c)

The final stretch, and just short of 50 minutes in...

Kilburn to West Hampstead (LUL) (0m54c)
West Hampstead Thameslink to St Pancras LL (3m61c)
Selby to Stevenage (straight down the ECML, no deviations, 146m59c)
London Euston to Glasgow Central via Birmingham New Street (408m79c - you don't mention any other routing point, so I'm assuming no messing about in the Wolverhampton/Bescot area!)
Glasgow Central to Manchester Piccadilly via WGN (225m71c)

Done, in approximately 55 minutes! All done on time and on budget!

Just remember me giving up almost an hour of my time to help you tonight, when I was going to spend time planning trips! I'm sure a tasty pint would go down beautifully...;)
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Haha yep, welcome to my world! :p

Wusses, the both of you! :p I've been doing 'full' mileages (what's doing mileages by half then?!) for years and I wouldn't have it any other way! It helps if you keep up to date with these things! ;)

I approve of your taste in music :)

Yeah it wouldn't be an issue at all if I did it regularly - I was doing so up until July or so then life got rather busy and I left it, then left it some more as I knew what a big job it'd be - in truth if it weren't for discovering the mileage competition I probably still wouldn't have done it. Thankfully I'm committed enough to always note down the units I travel on, even if I do make the occasional mistake and omit one. In all I expect the year to come out around 15,000 miles - of which at least half is comprised of journies no more than 10-15 miles each, a fair proportion of those only a mile or so (see all my TfL related mileage requests!)
Truthfully, there's few NR requests because a lot of those I can pull from the realtimetrains site for relevant journies, but they don't always show up.

Edit: D'oh! They still keep catching me unawares... :(

Victoria - Sloane Square (SSL, LUL) please! haha

All done!

OK - taking a guess at the above of 52 chains based on some rough km map I found, I have a total for 2014 of 14,326 miles and 20 chains
Not bad :) - I was hoping to maybe come in the top 20, and that I believe puts me in 20th place!

No worries, glad to be of assistance :)

Samuelmorris: Haven't looked your last request up yet as I didn't see it until now. If you still want the figure, I'll look it up later. On my phone right now and got to get ready to leave for work. I know the figure's no good to you now as you've done your 2014 total, but it may be useful for future reference!
