"Sir Roy McNulty received £218,215 for his work on the Independent Rail Value for Money Study, including remuneration for travel expenses."

People will receive wages commensurate with the value of the work they do. That's life.
Some train drivers (I think you know which TOC I'm on about) earn £60,000 upwards!
Both are too high IMHO

How have we reached the conclusion that £60k is too high? What are we comparing it with?
For choosing to work their rest days and sacrificing their free time to make that money. It isn't their basic. And no it isn't too high IMO, other people are underpaid.
Oh yes - that would be Eurostar! (Although I can guess which TOC you're thinking of!![]()
)
XC pay (almost) as much as VT, as do East Coast, so you can't put all the blame on Virgin!
Doctors get paid £100k+! Being a train driver is also a very responsible job that involves a lot of training. £60k (which would involve plenty of overtime) may be slightly high, but giving train drivers a pay freeze for a few years would be far better than giving them a pay cut.
Isn't it illegal to work on rest days, as it is "compulsory" to "rest" on those days?

Can someone point me to where these £60k basic wage train driving jobs are please? Because the last time I checked at my local depot the basic was somewhere between £35 and £38k. Just so as I know where to put my next application in for a train drivers job.

I think your figures are a bit out of date there
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Which figures? Doctors or TOC's?
Why would it be illegal to work a rest day? It happens all the time.
I meant TOCs sorry
Rest days aren't compulsory in the UK (they are in Ireland and some other European countries).

Let me guess... XC pay far less than VT? Is that correct?![]()
Think again![]()
Can I just point out that McNulty chaired the first meeting in Dec 2009, so he was working on the review for 18 months, there was also a huge amount of travel involved both in the UK and around europe to compare systems. This works out as an actual wage of 120-130k per year.
