It falls into the same area as Chiltern withdrawing the West Ealing - West Ruislip service at why they need to waste money on running a replacement bus (even if any genuine passengers can use GWR to Greenford for Central line to Ruislip).

It doesn't, because DalesRail serves a specific purpose, whereas most Parlys don't.

Regarding Northern West, this Times article:

(possible paywall, sorry)

says:

Passengers also face having some services cut further with the TransPennine Express reported to be considering reducing the number of carriages on trains from six to three.

Northern, which is directly operated by the government, is considering proposals to cut the frequency of services from Lancaster to Morecambe despite Rishi Sunak visiting the resort last month to award £50 million from the levelling-up fund to build a new Eden Project.

I have suggested hourly clockface Morecambes would be better than the present hotchpotch (see also St Albans) but this smells bigger. And the former would be madness.

The way the Morecambe services interact with the faster WCML passenger and the various freight means (plus the occasional extensions to/from Leeds) mean that would not be possible. There is an argument that the WCML should be bang clockface beyond Preston, but with slightly varying freight trailing loads, stopping patterns, aspirational services currently not in the timetable, etc. north of Preston.....it's not possible without another full re-write.

And, in the hour that the Morecambe unit runs to Heysham and back, there would need to be another unit to cover the following hour departure from Lancaster.

Should have just run it in passenger service from Victoria. It takes 17 minutes from Victoria to Streatham Hill, which is exactly the same as a passenger service takes. Would presume it's the same driver who took the empty unit. There's also bound to be close to a conflict at Victoria, so might not be the most timely service. The stock would probably have done something previously before though, but the idea is neat enough.
Very welcome services nonetheless. The sudden reduction of all the trains on this route to 5 cars has led to serious overcrowding on the busier days of the week

If they're looking at shortening the TPE's, it will just illustrate everything I've suspected about this government.

Quite. I am very much sold on "fewer, longer trains" as a means of saving money while keeping capacity and improving punctuality, but not on overall capacity reduction, that is just mad.

Interesting to note that it seems MetroWest Phase 1 and 2 frequency uplifts are being delivered in full with the May change, after years of delays. The line between Bath and Bristol will finally see 2tph stopper frequency!

Yes Oldfield Park has received 2tph both directions. They are about 15/45 minute apart but still a significant improvement.
`Excellent stuff, I often use the train, to get into town from Oldfield as a return is cheaper than the bus , so the increased frequency is welcome

Yes I also do! For most of the day it’s a train either way at XX:15, a train towards Bristol at XX:35 and a train from Bristol at XX:55.

After spending a while looking for an archive of the timetables, thanks www.dpsimulation.org.uk ! Below is a screenshot of the example of the off-peak Cambridge --> London services from May 2019:

View attachment 128222

1ph currently serves SST, with the currently-hourly CBG around 15mins later, leaving a 45min gap with no service to a town (although others say village) with 15,000 people. Looks like the 2nd CBG will come back to stopping at SST in May (which it did pre-covid), a service which already runs
I'm rather confused. I don't recall the faster Cambridge train stopping at Stansted Mountfitchet. The timetable for 2019 shows it running through non-stop. That is still the case in May 2023.

And the improved Gloucester line services, but with a strange (and inconvenient) 1 hour gap out of Bristol in the morning peak. All those currently boarding the 07.50 Gloucester at Filton are going to left high and dry.

And here it is!

What's the latest on Chiltern LHCS? Have they fallen victim to the Conservative Cull?

There still looks to be a similar level of service to the December TT, though one of the morning workings from Stourbridge Jn to Marylebone, 1H22, seems not yet to have been published (the units would otherwise be imbalanced, so it seems unlikely to have been removed).

Of course there could still be cutbacks to come.

1H22 is starting at Birmingham MS and it comes from Moor St sidings. It’s on RTT.

Talking of changes, looking closely this service appears to use the Chord at Doctor Day's to avoid Bristol Temple Meads. I knew there was one in the evening in the other direction in the evening, but am not aware of a service travelling in this direction around the chord.

New EMR timetable seems to indicate no through trains anymore from Melton Mowbray to St Pancras and vice versa. Just a shuttle between Melton Mowbray and Kettering. What stock will they be using?

Still a morning up and evening down through service on weekdays
1P22 attaches to 1B22 at Kettering
1D99 splits and also forms 1M51 at Kettering

Looks like Cross Country may be reducing the Nottingham to Birmingham service to hourly as all of the local services have been removed and replaced with ECS paths between Nottingham and Tyseley depot.

I hope not. In May it looked like we finally got the long promised second EMR Derby to Nottingham service to bring the total to 4 an hour (2 EMR, 2 XC) and now it appears we have gained 1, lost 1.
