There are going to be 9 masts (one for each pier).

No. There are 9 spans, with 8 intermediate piers and an abutment at each end, total 10 supports. NR's first proposal (which may for all I know have been intended to be shot down) was for 10 gantries (one for each abutment and one for each pier), but there will now be 4 gantries (one for each abutment and one for every third pier). Links to plans have been posted in this thread. Most recently, PDG1949 gave this link in #2004:

http://llpgport.oltps.sthelens.gov.uk/portal/servlets/ApplicationSearchServlet?PKID=100656

Click on "Existing and proposed elevations", for example.

Yes of course, I have seen those, just mis-remembering what was said.
On the viaduct itself there is paint at intervals on the walls, bearing the word "HOLE" with a down arrow.
Maybe they are the locations of the masts.

Excellent find, thank you.

(withdrawn:Please can you also find equivalent material for Earlestown Station and Rainhill Station?)

I've now finally looked in the right place (or one of them, at least) and found the planning consent for Earlestown Station's electrification works here:

http://llpgport.oltps.sthelens.gov.uk/portal/servlets/ApplicationSearchServlet?PKID=100855

I can find several relating to Rainhill, eg raising the footbridges, but nothing about electrification per se. Can anyone do any better?

Looking at the Earlestown Station plans as at Monday 4th August:

Bases of LM 23 14 are in place
Scrape exists for base of LM 23 15 (Twin Track Cantilever [TTC], ie "double gallows"!)
Base of LM 23 16 is in place (TTC)
Nothing at all of LM 23 17 & 18 (both TTC from the north side, ie to be mounted in Platform 1)
Scrape (big hole) for "SSA EWA ACG AT" (honest!) exists

If the markings tally up with the pier positions stated on the drawing linked to then it could be mast positions.
Otherwise it may mean exactly what it says and that they want a hole digging for whatever reason, maybe checking ballast depth and condition or that there is a drain hole at that point.

Just had a browse of your linked info, and revealingly the photo captions in the Earlestown Station 'design and access statement' are actually examples showing how it is intended to look at Rainhill. Might that be an indication that they will probably apply for and use the same solution there?

Could be, but isn't it leaving it all rather late? I assume (might be wrong) that Rainhill Station is about as Listed as can be, hence some of the other planning requests such as one to put up a memorial plaque.

The station buildings and the Skew Bridge are both Grade II listed - so not that protected at all really!

Apologies if this has already been covered, but metalwork now in place as far as the east footbridge at Rainhill station (see attached photo)

My reasoning was that if they copied the mocked up images for Rainhill into the application for Earlestown that would logically be a sign that they'd prepared the Rainhill application first, even though you haven't been able to find it online?

Not off topic, very much on as it is part of the electrificaton scheme.
The third track was originally part of the electrification and the fourth was part of the Northern Hub, but they have been largely combined.

But a bit premature as no trains running on it for a couple of years!
Didn't somebody mention recently that it might be accelerated?

Slightly off topic but sleepers now down alongside platform 4 at Huyton.

Actually (by lunchtime!) sleepers for the 4th track extended several hundred yards west of Huyton station.
Trackbed preparation is well under way almost to Roby station.
Rails for the new 4th track are also lying ready in the Up Fast 4-foot.
Quite a few new mast bases have gone in east of Huyton station (south side), of the metal pile type.
A section of return wire is in place past the Pilkingtons site almost to Thatto Heath.
Registration arms are up in the rock cutting at Thatto Heath, attached to the elegant wall fixings - clever engineering there.
Ordsall Lane-Victoria looks pretty much ready for wiring.
The four big terminal masts at the east end of Victoria just need their "Electric Trains Stop Here" signs ;)

FEEDING THE TROOPS......
I had to smile walking down Duke Street, St, Helens around 10pm last night when I spotted a Network Rail flatbed truck parked outside Geno's pizzeria, with a hi-vis jacketted gentleman watching over it. What was aboard? Why registration arms !

Indeed! Protecting all this fancy metalwork before it goes live must be a real issue for NR/BB.
The metal thieves will surely have noticed all the stockpiles - so much easier to walk off with than buried cables.
Once it's got 25kV running through it it will be a lot safer...

They do take measures certainly on cable drums that any unauthorized movement is immediately reported

I dont think we will be seeing those (at least not in the station area) as they are already getting on with the foundations beyond the road bridge :)

I believe the east end will be wired up along with the rest of the station as far as the Rochdale road bridge to aid shunting movements along with platforms 1 and 2. This should be coming online with the rest of the through platforms as one package.

Well, they're working now on increasing the headroom of the Rochdale Road bridge, and the next one after that is Osborne Street which has already been done. I'm not sure if there are any remaining headroom obstacles before Stalybridge!

According to the updated CP5 plan platforms 1 and 2 will be done with TP(W) electrification from Victoria to Stalybridge and be completed for December 2016 if it remains on schedule.

Bit more info for you. Allerton wires are considered live from 31 Aug. (Victoria is still showing tbc in WONs) St Helens is having a few signals redone too this weekend.
