SWT are supposed to be short of Desiros some of the Brighton to Basingstoke Diagrams that were previously 450 are now covered by ex Transpennine 158s.

My son is "dyslexic" and it's no fun. He's into railways, takes railway photos (he took some at Brockenhurst that day) and can type but he needs a spellchecker. Regrettably one is not always available. And I have been known to miss stupid typos and I have been writing magazine articles since 1974, am an author, Deputy Editor or VINTAGE ROADSCENE magazine, and a former Editor of UNDERGROUND magazine. It happens to the best of us!

I should also mention that I know plenty of Americans, and others, who use the wrong homophone....and errant apostrophes. You get used to it! A particularly brilliant expert on four-cylinder Chevrolets, a friend of mine, writes as he speaks and he mispells all the time, e.g. "to" instead of "too". However, that's life!

Brilliant site by the way Mr Hentis. My boys love popping down to Poole from Ashurst (New Forest) by train. Oh yes, Fred I was born in Teddington as well!

Its a complete pain in the bottom is dyslexia, I have to literally spend a few hours spell checking my web site when I put new items up which makes slow gong especially if I see a typo a few days or has been known to a few months later after I spent hours checking it!!!! Thansk for the Kudo's on the site. Its coming up to 4 years and 50,000 visits so its been a bit of a sucess to say the least.

Kieran has "short-term memory problems" and that comes under the "Dyslexia" umbrella. Goes to the special Unit at Applemore College near Hythe. However he has excellent design and visual abilities....colour sense and so forth. The brain gets used to visualising concepts. It also makes you mad about trains!

It was quite comfy on the 450, but then, it wasn't exactly busy, I was the only person in the whole carriage!

It defo cant stay... there's no way people will put up with that for long. It was really bad! Really really!

How comes the 450's have this affect and not the other units?

Its not the first time Ive heard 450's make this noise either, sometimes you can hear the same at Bournemouth, but it doesn't seem to happen with the 444's

I should think that it's the wheel profile and drier weather. You'll notice an increase in noise on many lines in hot weather.

Salisbury Depot is awful for screeching in the summer - must drive the locals mad.

He wanted to know today how to put Lymington Flyer on the destination screens. Took the board with him to put on the front today too.

I heard people were letting the Disastro go because they were confused - expecting a slammer

That photo was taken several months ago - it was in P1 due to a blockade between Brockenhurst and New Milton (works at New Milton).

24th September 2006 to be precise. I have never seen any trains use P1 through the starter to the Up before. I also missed the Eastleigh-Brockenhurst trains so never saw a train run into P4 on the Down either!

The Italian restaurant in the former goods shed to the left of the picture is highly recommended...and there are some nice photos of the station from 40 years ago or so inside as well. Their pizzas are humungous!

Various others do it in ECS, but those are the passenger services if you want that line.

1497 was on the line today.

I haven't seen it about for a very long time... why the scant usage of this unit? I prefer it to 1498...

Ive always found 1497 to be much louder than 1498. Often there is a lot of rattling in 1497.

Also, 1497 looks more "worn" than 1498 does in terms of paintwork and appearance.
