There must be another one (other than the Lymington CIGs and the VEP). Perhaps someone will let the secret out as to the identity of the mystery Slammer (I know Southern were going to keep one of the last CIGs they had, either 1805 or 1866, but I thought this didn't happen).

Not much chance of that because they won't release a Disastro as a spare first. Hope the green one's running when you come down - more photogenic with a nice BR emblem on the centre coach. If taking piccies - ask the driver nicely if he will put up 97 for you for the headcode. We normally run with whites only cos it's a pain to keep changing them.

Harumph! The Lymmy crap comes from us - the train crews who actually work on the line ( though how you'd actually spell it Lymy, lymmie lymee is anyone's guess).

I took a driver off 3 trips last night. I was asking what the original moquette was like. Consensus of opinion is that is was the old BR grey with red flecks. I'd have thought it would be some sort of Southern Region green myself but I just don't know. Anyone from a preserved railway know? Can't see SWT spending any more on an internal refurb though apart from a tin of Dulux maybe.

Lymmy sounds like it should be PC game for children teaching about the ethics of lemons... considering the average age of the population of Lymington is about 80...

Been today and the green one was out. No need to ask for the 97 to be put up, the driver religiously put it up on each trip complete with headboard.

Superb stuff.

Never noticed a headboard on the Lymmie before.

Anyway, the City Fliers were called the City "Fliers" because they were faster than the other services - all station stoppers.

The Lymington line trains are called the "Lymington Flyer" because it is a heratige line.

Well - it certainly is the fastest train to Lymington there has ever been or ever will be so it qualifies for the title.

Malcolm Ellis made the headboard cutting each letter out of marine quality plywood with a hand held jigsaw (non electric).

There was talk of using 170's when they re-laid the line a couple of years ago. Trouble is they accelerate so slowly that you'd have to go back to an hourly service.

170s would have allowed a Salisbury - Lymington via Chandlers Ford service, and hence a service for Beaulieu Road *claps*.

If I was in 'Train Planning' I'd have an hourly service from Lymington calling at a re-opened Ampress Halt (request) and all stations to Sot'on Bay with Beaulieu Rd Redbridge & Millbrook as request too.

We used to be able to start from the bay with a flagman - don't know if they'd still allow this. Anyway - they could bung a signal in.

Yup - they want to demolish the viaduct, dredge the channel and have more yacht moorings further up the river.

Money talks - wonder if Lymmy council will have their palms greased like Bomo council.

Closing the railway will be an easier choice from the dev's point of view.

Sad to see the Lymo line be 'curtailed' if it goes ahead.

It would be nice to see Southampton P5 in use...it has been the home of 1498 as you know when the engineering works were on and it suffered a "ceasing to function". Ampress Works Halt was refurbished and could be used now save it's locked up. It's not disability-friendly. The suggestion is for it to be relocated, and serve the hospital.
