I'm now playing "remember those cars?"

Facing the APT, right to left, are an Austin Allegro, Vauxhalll Astra, Morris/BL Marina, Ford Escort and (I think) Triumph Acclaim.

Facing the wall, right to left is a bit trickier. The one with just the sunroof visible, I have no idea. The Austin/BL Mini is a giveaway. The vinyl roofed hatchback I first thought was a Renault 14 but I'm not convinced. The last, is another Ford Escort. I dread to think how much a Mk3 XR3i or RS go for these days!

Ohh, good game, i was trying that myself but couldn't quite place the car partly hidden by the APT even though it looked familiar. I think you are right with an Acclaim - or the Japanese equivalent, wasn't it a Honda?

Yes, the Honda Prelude. I think the Acclaim had the black headlight surrounds, whilst the Prelude had the chromed surrounds

I think the vinyl roofed hatchback may be a Ford Fiesta. My initial thought was that it was a Capri, but there's a bit of the side showing and that changed.my mind.

Great, I'm glad you found it. I think it was your posts on the 'Back in the Day' thread that proved a key motivation for getting going on this project. If others haven't found that thread, this gentleman's exploits with the Travellers Fare catering trolley are not to be missed!

Some more late night / early morning South East action.

09/08/87. With all the commuters long gone the locos can come out to play and there was plenty of activity from 1am at London Bridge. 73122 heads a short newspapers train on platform 9. The driver would appear to have grabbed an early copy.

Swivelling the camera around, 73001 sits against the buffers having brought in the stock for the 04.09 Ramsgate working.

At the head of the Ramsgate train was 33211. Also about that night were 33031, 33043 & 73003 - some of which have appeared in previous photos.

28/12/86. 73004 has reached its destination on the 04.25 Victoria - Dover P mixed mail / passenger. The new driver will shortly take the empty stock away.

Oh how I remember the dark depths of London bridge with its overall roof. I did a few post evening entertainment trips home to Medway (Strood / Rochester ?) that way.

Now replaced with light and airy structures letting the sun in - brrrrrrr at this time of year !.

09/08/87. Here is 33211, previously shown at London Bridge, at its destination of Ramsgate. My choice of train for the night - always good to grab some 'Slim Jim' haulage when you can.

23/12/86. 33008 'Eastleigh' in recently applied green livery, at Portsmouth Harbour after arrival with the 12.10 from Cardiff.

04/03/87. It's that bridge at Fareham again, the rain creates some added reflections as 33053 leaves Portsmouth bound with the 06.30 service from Cardiff. Extra interest is added by the 47 which appears to have had an adventure down the Gosport branch. Unfortunately, I have no details on the reason for the working.

10/08/85. 33039 pulls into Southampton heading the 13.10 Portsmouth - Bristol.

04/11/86. Shooting into the low winter sun to capture 33028 leaving Southampton (15.10 Portsmouth - Bristol)

08/04/85. Not one of my finest shots, but an interesting piece of local (to me) history. This EMU is making its way up the Tram Road, the climb from Folkestone Harbour Station to join the mainline. Reputed to be the steepest gradient in mainline passenger use at 1 in 29. The line is now closed although a fair bit of the track remains. If you have not been down this way recently, I can strongly recommend the redeveloped Harbour Arm, incorporating the refurbished Harbour Station - it's been very nicely done. You might want to wait until it gets a bit warmer though!

The Gosport line was only open as far as RNAD Bedenham by then, having closed beyond in 1969. The MWFO trip was normally a Class 33 working, but there is no reason why Eastleigh might not have rustled up a 47. Alternatively it might have worked a special or (less likely) just been shoved there out of the way while it waited for its next work.
