Not sure if I have mis-understood something somewhere but which platforms are to be capable of 11 car Pendolino operation?
As far as I know it is going to remain platform 7 and possibly 9. 6 & 8 are now permanently gone at that length. No other platform in the 1 to 6 area can be stretched to that length. Not sure if I have mis-understood something somewhere but which platforms are to be capable of 11 car Pendolino operation?

The new platforms 6, 9 and 10 (the current 7, 8 and 9) will be capable, with platform lengths of 270, 270 and 267 metres.
How is platform 9 (new) going to fit a 11 car pendo if the track for the new 7 & 8 have encroached onto the existing platform? It's not possible for both 6&9 to be 270m
Can't the original 8/new 9 be extended? I think it was just shortened to allow construction work to be done. The new platforms 7 & 8 join up with the old 7. I really am mixing my platform numbers up now, ha ha.Just looked at the new setup. I can't see how an 11 can go in. The platform has been cut back too much to fit one in.

There is a 2015 presentation (which has been quoted before) online here:

Thank you for linking that. It certainly makes it more clear what is proposed.
I still don't quite see the point of gaining 2 platforms and losing two others. Moreover the goal of "wider platforms and safer train access" seems to be negated.
A big driver seems to be getting Pendolini into the slow line side "during perturbation" but, for the times this happens, could they not just use the ladders to reach the fast l
During the first nine days, attention focused on work to enable Platforms 1 and 2 to open for temporary bi-directional operation, which was achieved on October 9.
There's an item about the recent project in the new issue of Rail magazine (#839, pp. 24-25). It says
I'm having difficulty understanding how terminal platforms can work other than bi-directionally.
Platform access not limited to entering from the up and leaving on the down lines or vice versa.
It must mean allowing access to the WCML. During the partial closure Platforms 1 and 2 only had services to Manchester via Chat Moss, I think only using one or two tracks to Edge Hill. Very poor choice of words though!

Platform 6 and 9 will close this Xmas to be remodelled

The current platform 8 will become platform 9
The newly built platform will open as platform 8
Will the current platform 7 (virgin) become platform 6 for now?
Reason I ask this is the new platform 8 surely is also a new platform 7 as two lines were built? I thought two new platforms were built not one?

No mention of a platform 7 here so I’m confused?
Surely if Platform 1 is to disappear later next year, won't they have to re-number again ?
Not just 6 and 9, it is a whole station blockade again. Virgin, TPE and LM terminating at South Parkway again. Northern at Hunts Cross and Huyton.
Tesco Metro. Liverpool doesn't have enough. Ha ha.Are there plans for the empty platform space once 1 goes?
