Hi all,

I am compiling a list of all train services that involve reversals for a little thing I'm doing and I need a little help with it, but I need to know the reversal points and how many time it reverses. I already have a list but any help is very much appreciated.

My list is:
(Italic indicates reversal points)
Newcastle-Reading Birmingham
Manchester-Bournemouth Reading Birmingham (on the way back)
Liverpool-Norwich Sheffield Ely
Nottingham-Skeggy Granthem
Leeds-Heysham Lancaster
Newcastle/middlesbrough/cleethorps-Manchester Airport Manchester Picc
Mancester-Cardiff via Bristol Bristol
Looe Line
Tamar line
Birmingham International-Pwhelli/Aberwystwyth Shrewsbury
Birmingham International-Holyhead Chester
Manchester Picc-Milford Haven Swansea Carmarthen
HoW line Llanelli
Whitby-Middlesbrough Battersby
Adwick-Lincoln Sheffield
Gt Malvern-Weymouth/Brighton Bristol
Cardiff-Pompey Bristol

That's all I know. Any more suggestions would be most grateful

Thanks

Both reverse at Littlehampton as does the last Portsmouth to Brighton but don't know the time of that one as its not one of our duties

Do Bournemouth-Manchester trains reverse at Birmingham? They arrive ex-Coventry and carry on staright to Wolves, like the VT services do, no reversing at all.

Some of the Edinburgh / Manchester-Bristol / Plymouth services may do however, as some run via Camp Hill (necessitating at reverse to get to Derby) or University (necessitating a reverse to get to Wolves), but I can't remember what happens to which.

I got mixed up between the Manchester-Bristol services which go via camp hill down then via five ways coming home and reversing at Birmingham New Street

Anything Northern operate through Newcastle can reverse there because of the layout, quite a lot of the Metrocentre - Morpeths do for a start

Oh and Brighton to/from Ashford International at Eastbourne

Actually it's anything not terminating at Eastbourne, including London to Hastings via Lewes and Brighton to Hastings.

All the highland sleeper services reverse at Waverley. Assuming there isn't an east coast diversion in place, of course.

What do you mean? According to project mapping Metrocentre-Morpeth trains just go straight through. That service enters from the West and leaves from the East so why would it reverse and where does it reverse?

Manchester Picc/Oxford Rd to Crewe/Alderley Edge/Wilmslow via Airport services reverse at Manchester Airport.

Manchester Picc to Hadfield services reverse at Glossop (and Manchester Picc to Glossop services reverse at Hadfield)

Leeds to Heysham services also reverse at Morecambe (as well as Lancaster already mentioned)

The once daily Kyle-Elgin service reverses twice.

Anything from Stranraer to Glasgow via Kilmarnock reverses at Kilmarnock. Although I think most services now go via Paisley.

Project Mapping does not tell you whether trains reverse! I thought Open Train Times in Advanced mode showed 'RM' for reversing movement but I can't see that now.

I agree but he said they can reverse. Anything that passes through Newcastle can reverse. OK, so most won't, but it's possible! This one does not; this one does. Trains will reverse without necessarily being booked to, if they need to turn the stock or if there is a problem with the leading cab (e.g. a windscreen wiper failure or something).

Also East Coast and XC services can reverse in or out of Newcastle. I have been on a HST from London that reversed at Newcastle on its way to Edinburgh.

A limited number of Ramsgate - London Charing Cross via Dover services reverse at Minster.

All services are SSuX (as this is effectively a "school train"):

0740 2W24 Ramsgate - Charing Cross
0805 2W25 Ramsgate - Charing Cross
1340 2R40 Charing Cross - Ramsgate
1440 2R44 Charing Cross - Ramsgate

They reverse at Minster and use the chord between Minster West and South junctions. All other services via Dover turn off at the East junction and do not call at Minster.

(as an aside, I think that chord is used when the via Dover services terminate at Minster due to engineering work, and it's also used for ECS moves here or there)

Maybe I should have reworded my reply better as I was implying more that how could it reverse as I could see nowhere where it could reverse, maybe a loop line or something but looking at google maps I can see how they can enter either end of the station if approaching from the south or west.

Wakefield Westgate to Huddersfield reverse at Wakefield Kirkgate.

Leeds to Knottingley reverse at Castleford.

Some Manchester to Eccles trams reverse at Media City UK (which must get an award for the most cringeworthingly named reversing point.)

All LM services that call at Worcester Shrub Hill before continuing westwards (or opposite) require a reversal at WOS.

Exmouth to Paignton services reverse at Exeter St Davids

The summer saturdays only London Liverpool Street to Great Yarmouth reverses at Norwich.

I believe there is also an early morning Taunton to Cardiff Central that travels via Bristol Parkway with a reverse there
