It depends what you mean by usable. Not all stations are usable by all passengers.

If no trains stop at a station then your characteristics as a passenger are irrelevant.

Teesside airport? The intermediate stops on the Stockport-Stalybridge line? I was pointing out that the infrastructure has to be maintained but the near-total lack of train services make it pointless.

The trains which arrive at Sudbury are quite busy with commuters, as it saves the long drag on the Piccadilly line.

On that grounds Angel Road probably wins the least usable station in London.

It might be, although Sudbury & Harrow Road is the quietest National Rail station in London.

Only 19,000 people were assessed as having used it, compared to 86,000 at Angel Road.

I agree that some of the Severn Beach Line stations don't feel particularly friendly, but the only one I'd try and avoid at night where possible would be Stapleton Road.

Some good stations have been mentioned! I was going to suggest Sugar Loaf and Lympstone Commando but Lapford was a good one - And I have been there too (after dark) and you really need a torch or something if you're planning on walking along that main road.

Coombe Junction Halt can't be particularly usuable either. 4 trains a day stop there (two to Looe, two to Liskeard), but the second is in the afternoon as the platform has no lighting, so not useful for commuting. And it is in the middle of nowhere and serves like 3 houses at the bottom of the valley.

Tygwyn on the Cambrian Coast doesn't look too great on Google maps - Station is literally to the side of the level crossing with a ramp straight down onto an A road with no pavements.

I think its not so much about the lack of services but more about the lack of anything nearby. There's the studios but I don't think there is much else there.

Really? theres about what tops of say 2000+ people who work there overall maybe and you think its a hub and needs a direct link to central London? To be fair its what 20 mins to Silver street then change at seven sisters to get central? Its not that arduous surely?

Coca Cola and IKEA are nearby employers, as well as several small businesses. That's an employment hub to me.

Thats because its a pain in the neck and only has 5 each way at peaks

So by your reckoning Therapia lane is also an employment hub and deserves proper trains direct to London?

Or change the train timetable to reflect the current ferry timetable or amend the ferry timetable to match the train timetable.

Probably has something to do with Teesside Airport being the least used airport in the country, if its not the completely inappropriately located station for the terminal building.....

I thought there were also plans to put an entrance/bridge/something at the other end of the platforms to provide easier access to Tesco/Ikea etc... making it much more useable and pushing it off this list.

It's much, much more than that. There's a huge development coming to the area. The station will be rebuilt for four track, with three initially. The next franchise is required, once this is built, to run a 4tph service from Stratford to Angel Road (STAR).

This is then likely to be augmented by Crossrail 2, which will bring four track all the way from Tottenham to Broxbourne with 12tph all-stations along this section.

It's probably something to do with how the points are operated at Coombe Junction. Any trains travelling through Coombe Junction, then through the halt towards Moorswater would have to use the second ground frame, just north of the platform. So it probably remained there for convenience.

I've never been there, but Teesside Airport is apparently the UK's least used railway station.

It was in the year 2013-14. The 2014-15 honour went to Shippea Hill.

Lympstone Commando, although exclusively used by visitors to the Royal Marine Commando training base, however it's on Network Rail property so normal passengers can now use the station, weirdly Exe Estuary Trail runs between the platform & entrance to the camp, but the entrance and exit gate remains locked.

I passed (we didn't make the call) while on a trip on the line recently - was surprised to see the footpath leading along to the other station that isn't served by each train whereby everyone says you'll get shot if you get off!

I made the mistake of not looking up the terrain before I embarked on a journey to there - that was a flipping steep climb back up to Liskeard!
