Not a good day at the gala today I think. According to Paul Spracklen (owner of 50021, so trustworthy source) 70017 (see correction) has derailed with 50021 behind it. All the Damems shuttles have been cancelled

The 50 has derailed and trapped the 70 in behind it. Looks like one wheel off on the 50

Just out of curiosity the 70 was cancelled out of keighly and according to notes on railcam "due to an incident" does anyone know what happened and when it'll go back?

Apparently the 70 ran through the points and, from what I’d heard, was lucky to remain on the rails. The 50 followed (presumably attached to the 70 in readiness for the train they were supposed to haul out of Keighley) and subsequently dropped off the track.

If those are the points to the headshunt then everything runs through them. I can't remember the technical name for them but the loco changes the points as it runs through.

Yeah no points were run through, I too don't know the technical term but they are yard points and will move over in trailing direction to wherever they need to be.

Ah, thanks for clarifying - myself and my travelling companions were at Haworth behind 37057+37508 when we heard of what had happened. We were told we were going to be delayed “indefinitely” due to an “operational incident”, only to then be on the move again just moments later!

A great trip to the gala on Friday. A lovely day. Fine weather, a good beer menu, interesting timetable and a great selection of locomotives which didn't break down! Obviously the Deltic was the star of the show!

Sadly there were a couple of "top men" who considering the heat were becoming a bit, erm, pungent. Them aside ( and some utterly embarrassing and inane spotter wibble from others: If you don't like the locomotive sent by Colas don't turn up & not everything you disagree with on the big railway is a conspiracy. ) the day was a good one - well done KWVR!

Can anyone confirm what condition the 50021 is in after the mishap please? Will any repairs needed be carried out on the KWVR?

Just going past Haworth on railcam in convey to leave KWVR, so I suspect it's nothing major.

The consist was 47(RES one can't remember number) 50, and the HST power cars. Which I think is all visiting engines now left railway as 20s other 47, deltic and the 7) left yesterday along with 37.

Yeah I caught those yesterday and the 37 separately through Walton. I’m in position for todays move near Castleford so hopefully catch all 4 loco’s again

Damaged track and broken chairs, no doubt other work as the sleepers look a little 'shoddy'.

Nothing to do with the track. It is a case of the cl70 being somewhat too large for the tight curves

The headshunt is rarely used but obviously of a larger radius than the main line which is inside it. Surely that at least makes the state of the track a factor?

70020 visited for the 2022 gala; whether it went into the same headshunt as 70017 did on Sunday though I don’t know……

Agreed, I think it looks great!

Excellent visit to the railway today, nice to see it doing a steady trade midweek. Volunteers were very friendly and the beer is always fantastic. Some nice bonus class 14 haulage too to help rescue the Class 20

Definitely not to my taste. To me its another preserved loco in a livery aimed at the 60+ y/o's. As with many other railways, I can't imagine this sort of thing does much to inspire younger volunteers (of which there is a famous shortage!).

Interesting view. I know a few young volunteers about who are quite happy with pre-blue liveries.

It's just different people liking different stuff. In a similar vein, regardless of livery, I almost always find myself thinking "they're just too clean" when I go to a diesel weekend
