Good read, on the Southern strike day, 700108 was forming declassified extras on Brighton to London Bridge services, so I went on the 1931 from London Bridge home to Three Bridges, sitting in the first class single seat behind the cab.

I would rather prefer to have my first taste of a 700 on a half decent speedy run, either London Bridge to Croydon or St Pancras towards West Hampstead than on a slow potter around Crystal Palace.

Sounded like a successful day in London, I bet boarding that 350 so early was annoying.

Another great report Tech, really is a fantastic achievement to get over 100 winners over the two days.

I'm hoping there'll be more 700s in service by the time I do my ALR which is planned to be in around a month's time, as my friend and I are planning to get a ride on a few of them at some point over the week. What do you think of the unit that you sampled?

Nicely done on the 700... Still need to interpret those diagrams and line myself up a ride on one soon. An impromptu social event saw me travelling through the Thameslink core this evening, so I got to see them at least. The stripe livery looks great!

Your sticking power with the tube clear out is impressive! I can see how red pen fever sets in down there, but recording them sounds like a right pain.

Cracking stuff as always, will catch up next time you come down :)

I think we should create a new thread somewhere about good or rancid bogs, you seam to find them. What did you think of the 700s?
Nice to hear the Hereford 150 occasionally sticks to diagram. Cheers for sharing

Well done in beating Kite to a 700 (;))! Shame you didn't get the 313 but with another 53 winners I'm sure you were happy! Bromsgrove old station was still open when you passed today? I thought the new one was to open today? Also, what are you going to do regarding the new station and shack scoring?

Finally, I don't think it was longer than mine ;)

We'll agree to disagree then

The new Bromsgrove shack, well it's going to be like Rochester. New location, totally new station, but still named the same. I will be visiting it one day but not counting it as a brand new visit, if that makes any sense whatsoever!

That had been my original plan, however I couldn't turn down a 387/2! Next time I go down, hopefully a fair few will be out and it won't take as much effort to chase them. The TL Stagger wasn't so bad yesterday to be fair, probably caused by the excitement of a red 387 and then later a brand new train!

I would have loved to stay even longer but the finances wouldn't allow it. Nor would time sadly.

Agreed it was quite an accomplishment! I like the 700s, I really do. Whether that changes when I get on a really busy one or not remains to be seen!

Hope there's some out for you when you get down there!

Just realised I never read the Devon trip! Too much to read before bed, so that will be my morning cuppa read tomorrow! :)

Hope you enjoy the read when you get to it :)

Tech, yet more Capital Capers? A great read from end to end - like a good book, once you start, you want to read all the way to the end to see what the "hero" gets up to. No doubt, your London wants list is still bloated but as they say, every little counts. And it's a pity that you had to endure a lengthy road journey to access the Smoke.

As others have said, another good read. I think I'll wait until the 700s are out in larger numbers before I go for them. If I fall on one I won't turn it down but I am going to try and go for the older stuff around first. They were two healthy attacks of your requirements lists though! Good stuff!

Great read as usual tech, 2 very productive days there, never seen a winners haul like that in your trip reports for a good while, a good ole clear out there, no doubt, a very welcome one too.
Yeah 40p for a toilet break is ridiculous in my opinion, suppose you could take a picnic and make the most of it, if you were so inclined.
Shame you ran out of time for the 313, I know your pain I had to depart Glasgow Central before a certain 156 arrived from Mallaig but I'm sure we'll have other oportunities to get those in the bag.
Look forward to the next one.

More adventures are due next month around London, although the exact moves are yet to be worked out. Glad you enjoyed the read, I have to admit to wondering if any of the S7s or indeed the Central line sets I had were on your lists!

Also, I think it was yourself mentioning somewhere on here a love of 6X. Had some tonight for the first time, oh my days it's nice and I see why it's received positive reviews on this forum!

Hopefully next time I'll go by rail both ways, but if a coach is required then so be it. We'll see, but I can tell you me and Blindtraveller are looking forward to the trip!

do you have to get off at a shack for it to count? or just thru it?

I have to be on the platform to count it. Too tired tonight to go through the rules for shack scoring that I have set for myself, but the above rule has had two exceptions over the years. Lympstone Commando and Redcar British Steel. Long story!

I was going to focus on 315s and 317s but it just didn't work that way. A plan on a London bash just doesn't work ouf for me!

I reckon you'll be pleased with the 700s, I was!

Not many parts of the UK I can score away like that these days is why you don't see such enormous amounts of scores going on too often. With new stuff arriving by the bucketload, however, that'll start changing rapidly.

A very welcome clearout indeed, my books are looking better for it that's for sure!

The central line is one good line for having a good clear-out, especially if you just linear bash on the section between Acton & White City.

Or as you were doing, linear bashing along the district line 'core' between Earls Court & Tower Hill, with S7s every couple minutes with the odd D-stock thrown in

Tech, sadly you did not get one over me on the S-7 front. I'm only after a couple of very high numbered ones, one of which Kite has bagged. 1992ts is a different matter though. In your short foray onto the Central Line, you managed two of the three that I am chasing (92022and 92246). You failed to get the old hat trick as I cannot see any reference to 92046 in your reports.

Good to know that you have another London jolly lined up. I'll definitely look forward to the report.

I'm not doing the linear bashing thing on the Central line until I finish the shacks. Did the linear moves on the Piccadilly line of course, despite still needing shacks on it. That was during Day 2's Red Pen Fever though!

92046 I didn't get on my moves. I dread to think how hard it's going to be for me to get my last Central line sets in!

Kite beating someone to doing something is something near enough all of us have experienced at least once, you're now in that club!

Following the read of Noddy's latest shack scoring session, I'm now planning not one but two trips to London next month!

Afternoon all, random update to last weekend's trip report:

I've not long finished adding all 60 journeys to RM and I am pleased to report two facts. 1) 350112 is now my highest mileage 350 at 346 miles and 50 chains. 2) I covered 310 miles over the two days.

What's annoying me at the moment is that July was meant to be the busier month out of June and July, yet it's been rather quiet so far. June turned out to be one of the best months of the year, which is rather unexpected! This does mean I'm considering changing plans *again* and heading out for the day tomorrow. I have no idea where to yet, as I need to carefully check my money situation, but it'll probably just be a trip to Birmingham to hunt trams and any Chiltern winners. We'll see!

Stay tuned for an update on Tech's TPP Discussion thread too in a bit!

Clearing a 350 for that milage seeing the work and distances they do in the Midlands is good going indeed. Well done.

Have a good day trip tomorrow to Birmingham to hunt down some trams and anything else required that Chiltern might throw out :)

18/07/2016 - Tech Was Torn

Musical reference here was Natalie Imbruglia's Torn, for those wondering. I wasn't going to type up a trip report for this one, as I had originally planned to stay at home for my two days off, as a Tech's Bookwork Weekend was in session. However, I was sick of staying in the house, and once the sunshine also joined the heat, I couldn't resist going for a shack score! With the majority of the bookwork done, I got a couple of chores done before a visit to the ATM and onto the bus at 1410 to Llandod. £5.10 paid for the day return and I was on a mileage requirement bus, Optare Solo YD63 VDZ, which was to be boosted to 823.5 miles by 1500. Two other Solos remain under The Magical Thou, as these three Solos don't tend to produce on the Hereford route much.

Some of you will remember some months back, after my last Heart of Wales shack scoring spree, that I was adament that my last 5 of them would be scored before the end of the year. It is, therefore, high time I got on with that mission! Yesterday evening I had considered going up to Birmingham to hunt my last 4 Midland Metro trams, as well as any Chiltern requirements that may produce. However, combined with the desire to finish my bookwork, the lack of available funds put a stop to that. As did not getting to sleep before 0100, no way did I want to get up at 0630!

Bookwork is continued on the trip into Wales, as my count of required shacks was 12 days late now. I set myself on 6th June to do a count every month, so I anticipate the next one to be on 18th August. It'll be noticed by you all I never did start that thread for discussing shack requirements, when I saw how many I needed I deemed it to be too much to do that yet. Maybe when I get to less than 1,000...For those interested [and I intend to post the update in the Shack Attack thread too - Ed] I currently require 1,312 shacks across England, Wales and Scotland. This does include all preserved and light rail shacks, but not Northern Ireland, where I need 44 shacks all in.

Lots of chavs around the station, whereas I make my way to Tesco and stock up on some cold drinks, including three bottles of Welsh cider. Several beers I need here too, one must remember this for future reference! £4.40 gets me a day return to the choice of shack score, Llanwrtyd. Super Dud 150283 is in charge of escorting me there, and it's hot afternoons like this where you wish there was air-con on these trains! We leave bang on time [those of you who read my last trip report on this line will be shocked like I was! - Ed] and we have quite the crowd at Builth Road. Oh yeah, duh, it's Royal Welsh Show! Oh for the days of 37/4s on extras for the agricultural event, oh weren't they good fun, now all I have are memories of 37425 on them [and a YouTube video of highlights on my channel over there in 2005 - Ed]...

Another cider is thoroughly enjoyed on this run, as I continue the 'Stuff I still need for haulage' lists. Good progress is made on the short journey, and more will be made on the northbound journey, having now got to the 321s so far. A paper backup has been needed for some time, as I'm worried I'll lose my NREA and/or notebook at a bad time. Pf course, time was made to enjoy the clickety-clack sound on the jointed track and, naturally, the scenery on a beautiful day. It was a shame to leave the train so soon, but more Sprinter thrash was due so happy days! A natter with the crew during the fester passed time nicely before joining Super Duds 153367+153353 back to Llandrindod, 6 minutes late. Good thing there's a reasonable plus for the bus home! YJ58 CFG with a fast driver home was more tempting than a required pub, so I board for some serious thrash home!

Good report as usual Tech, as for your dud units, I still need all three of those! I dread to think how many shacks I need, being honest I haven't even attempted to count them, but I know it's a lot more than your required amount. The one shack I might just beat you to up here is Maghull North, which is scheduled to open in December 2017. Thinking about that, I still need to see how many Merseyrail stations I need to visit. :)

Lovely weather today that's for sure, might get my barbecue out in a bit.

Sounds like a good afternoon out! I did the same sort of thing this afternoon and got 4 required shacks and was only out for 2 and a half hours.

Good read Tech, having never travelled on the Heart of Wales line what is the average festering times at stations? Although on a day like this if it was planned I don't think I would mind quite a long fester.

Tech staying at home on a Monday? It was never going to happen! He's got too much wanderlust to be diligent and catch up with his bookwork.

Seriously, nice to see someone else reporting on a mini bash and more so, given that it is effectively Techs own back yard.

So I see from your post on Shack Attack, good call on going after them. I think it's fair to say I have found something new to go after on my unallocated Mondays!

Sounded like a good little day trip, as another Heart of Wales line shack is ticked off :)

Indeed, 4 remain to be done and two of them will involve long festers. Might do them during a Tech's Bookwork Weekend

A nice little move to get one of those awkward shacks roped in :)

Cheap as well, well until factoring in the booze on the trip, let alone the ones I had after I got back

Oh yes, the driver on the Tempo back is known to give the beast some thrash on the long open road. Would have been quicker but had to slow right down twice for sheep lol

Depends on which shack, from which direction and what service you're on! I believe Llanwrda for me would involve a 3.5 hour fester, or was it 2.5 hours. Without checking the timetable all I can say for sure is that it's a long time! Cynghordy is also a lengthy fester, and I'd be able to go for it and Builth Road in one day, as well as either Llanwrda or Llangammarch, but due to the way bus services from my way to Llandrindod work, the early bus required for that lot doesn't run again now until September!
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
At least you got out in the end. I need significantly more shacks than that, 1781.

Quite a few then! That being said I've been doing it for quite a lot longer!

Oh I've done it before, the last Tech's Bookwork Weekend I did! Most of the bookwork is done, I've got to the 379s in my required haulages list now so that's nearly done :)

Indeed it is part of my stomping grounds, which admittedly covers a surprisingly large area!
