Ok, it appears some explanation is required.

Young People - A suitable alternative?

Issues - 'Problems' isn't a suitable alternative word, since not all the 'things' I cover or will cover are 'problems'
---
DOO - I think there should be a railway presence required on all trains where a staff member is responsible for the safety of the passengers. They should be trained on traction and routes. To ensure that they will be on all trains, it may be an idea to have them operate the passenger doors. They should be paid at least 25% more than Ticket Examiners. Maybe we could call them 'Conductors'?

If you chose to make cheap comments about lovely debating, it just goes to show that you had NO intention in adressing the ORIGINAL purpose of the thread.

It doesn't look like you did either, considering your first post in this thread was about the language issues as well. I don't think you are in a position to comment on 'cheap shots' either ;)

Scotsman - no need to change the language that you are using. From what I read on your blog, you have the knack of writing in a way to engage the reader. Put it this way - I've never had anything published in the paper!

No, if you had read and understood my posts, you will see that I am saying no one is entitled to decide in what way the english language progresses, because it is a dynamic, evolving entity.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

Please point out the question he actually did ask? I am merely pointing out that no one person, or group of people has the right to control language.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

Lovely constructive debating there ;)

And so the circle continues, bangs head against metaphorical wall. (this comment was a reply to the first paragraph and now for the second one)

You say no one has the right to control a language, I take it you dont know what China is like then. Also the second paragraph is starting at the beginning again. I will now bang my head on the metaphorical wall for the second time.

Just because someone/something can doesn't mean they have the right to do so.

Also scotsman nothing wrong the the title or your writing style!

The reference to 'getting a life' was MY view of many (especially on forums such as this) where young people lose touch with reality, and was aimed as an opinion to the person whom originally open the thread.

I can't say I noticed you making any point towards me. You should perhaps note that I am a young person and I'm very in touch with reality!

China are controlling their people and the way they communicate - through the internet for example - but there is no way China is controlling an entire language. Nobody has the right to control a language - no one person owns it (a point which I have now reiterated for the 3rd time, yet you still fail to grasp it). Aside from that, it would be a logistical and organisational nightmare - unless the Thought Police really did exist.

Thank you very much! I have no intention of changing my writing style in anyway! I only got offered this because of the 'credentials' I have (I'm not going to mix that up in this forum, it could make life very difficult for me)

Governments regularly kill off words,(I will leave that with you lot to think about) and langauge is prone to being 'steered' by the governments. May I remind you I dindnt bring up the point about teenagers being in touch with reality

Really? Governments 'kill off words'? Someone's been on the brandy!

So, which words have the British Government allegedly killed off?

As for being published, yes I DID earn my living at it at one time, writing in and for the Suinday Times Insight Team, the Daily Telegraph, The Independent, Aviation News, as well as editing a couple of private circulation publications at one time or another, all on aviation-related topics.

Then it's a pity that YOU are not setting an better example, rather than lowering yourself by trying to demean the younger generation with your 'nit picking'.

Does it make you feel good?

And I quote from one of the articles I had published

Public transport? Why should you rely on the Government to help you get around because you haven’t been forward thinking enough to learn to drive. One thing’s for certain - if you want to get to Orkney, or you’re under 17, you’re in trouble.

Your rather negative stance towards young people, sorry I know you don't like that - let me rephrase, young people is incredibly offensive and derrogatory and is unsubstantiated with any evidence whatsoever.

I am a young person. I am not a brat. You are behaving unreasonably. Please up your game.

That's hardly killing words off! The word still exists even after it isn't plastered on a train door! And what evidence do you have that it is the government?

I am also what you call a 'young person' cant you tell? that earlier post was a bit of humour but that sort of thing is bad on forums like this.

that prooves what I was on about in the first place, the government are steering the langauge to there needs, you're thinking of certain words being abolished, its not as blatant as that, you cant abolish words but you can forget them and replace them with something else.

This is my last post for the night, so if I dont respond I havnt given up I just need sleep.

I thought you said we were all entitled to our opinions?

You are now confusing 'opinions' with tirades of criticism and abuse of your PEERS since you obviously feel superior to them.

Your OPINIONS do not need to involve commenting on the opinions of others, especially when the original purpose of this thread was to seek out a variety of such opinions, without the need for someone acting as a self appointed policemean.

I am sure the originator of this thread is quite capable of selection from all the submitted posts.

Cheers, I'm assuming your referring to the DOO post?

That won't be submitted to the Press on account of the likely influx of emails coming in along the lines of "wtf?"

Aye, thats the one mate! Wish that had went to press during our industrial action! Well written anyway.

No, it was hard to tell. I could detect it was sarcasm, but given your earlier posts it was very hard to work out it was irony.

How ironic. Who is acting as a "self appointed policemean" now?

Regarding abuse of peers, I hope you will be aiming that at klambert? After all, he did call Scotsman a brat.
