Why are so many people choosing the Pendo over the true British icon that is the HST? Deltics, 50s, 37s, 1st gen DMUs; fine. But Pendos?

Actually, one I'd like to try - which I'm sure a certain northerner will like - is a Pacer. See what kind of experience it is when you can see everything in front of you! N.B.: Said northerner may also be pleased to hear that, after my jaunt down to Pembroke a month ago, I am not the Pacer Hater (lol) that I once was.

There's one train I'd like to drive, but it would be impossible, the Coronation. The loco would have to be none other than Mallard.

I used to want to drive a Valenta-ised HST. Full set, Marston cooler, NA256 turbos, 8 coaches, job done. These days, I'd love to drive a 37 on any sort of work. Thrashing it to the max to keep to unit times on a Valley Lines run to Rhymney would be awesome, but that'll never happen. Hmm, now there's an idea for a railtour...

Hmm, now DMU wise I'd have to go for a 175. EMUs, well I'm thinking 458s, although I'd be quite happy with a 442. Electric loco wise, well it has to be a 92. The closest thing we've got to a working Roarer, and the sheer power in the monsters, great fun I reckon. Mind you, if the chance came up I'd be equally happy having a go on those Euroshuttle locos. Extreme power available there!

Of course, I've missed out steam. No competition here, I'd have to have a go on a Manor, preferably Bradley Manor.

As you've probally found out on the forum I can't stand Cl376s there horrible.

Besides I can only comment as a passenger, and I'd go with a Cl465 over any other unit (Espicially a 465/9). I remeber a year or so back when SE put a Cl376 on a fast Charing Cross service from Sevenoaks (Usually a Cl465), without making any comments myself the passengers were moaning alot about them, most saying "What have they done with the 'normal train' these are terrible!"

I think I'd go for an 86 or a 47. I wouldn't go for a 45 as the only one I've seen is broken, and at the end of a siding.

Well first and foremost, it has to be a 47. No competition. So thats the answer to the question.
To expand it though, this would be closely followed by a HST.
Electric loco? 87 closely followed by 90 or 92
DMU- 158
EMU- Something like a 421
