I don't remember that lol. How embarrassing![]()
If the Provincial 155s were still around, then it won't have been a Virgin HST:I had a Virgin Cross Country HST between Crewe & Shrewsbury one evening many years ago. Birmingham had basically been closed due to rather a lot of snow & the powers that be diverted the service down the Marches line. As a yardstick for how long ago this was, I had a 155 from Shrewsbury to Chester afterwards (before conversion to 153's).
Never did find out if it made it to Bristol & beyond that day.![]()
Cambridge is on a diversionary route from the East Coast, but i've me we known the diversions to call here- always just passing through

153 conversion completed by the end of 1992.
Virgin CrossCountry franchise began Jan 1997.
Yes, and they have been diverted that way before and since. Were hsts diverted over the inverness aberdeen line when the highland mainline was closed after the incident at carrbridge in 2010.
Ah ok do the drivers retain route knowledge or are they conducted along the route.Yes, and they have been diverted that way before and since.
A quick google comes up with this...I’m pretty sure one has been to Aberystwyth.
May have been easier to ask where a HST hasn't been...
Australia.May have been easier to ask where a HST hasn't been...
Back in the early days of VXC, a 2-carriage VXC HST set made its way to Manchester Airport from Glasgow Central/Edinburgh (covering for a 158).

Ive been on one many years ago 98 maybe, I’d been at Coventry for the footie and the service went cov-new st-Nuneaton (reverse) and up WCML to Staffordduring fairly recent diversions?
Don't worry about it, happens to us all... in this very thread I've mentioned a memory of multiple HST sets passing Borth, which may well be false!Ah, my memory isn't what it used to be!Definitely a 155 so a BR operated Cross Country set in that case.
Bedford-Bletchley has been covered by at least one HST - think it was after a West Coast farce and they diverted one.has one ever run down the Marston Vale line?
