Was at the top of Frodsham hill in the early 90s and there was a set heading towards Warrington Bank Quay. They did a few Lime St XC services deputising for a MK2 set in early VT days, not sure if they've ever done a WC service to Euston from there though, they were a daily run from Man Piccadilly to Euston via Macc in the one an hour days! (Who'd believe that now?!)

Have they ever gone via St Helens though? Or been to Southport or any other branches off the WC such as Morecambe/Windermere? (Not Blackpool as that was a regular turn for them)

I was on a non-stop HST run from Paddington to Slough via Greenford back in 1989. There had been an accident at West Ealing the day before and we got to see the unpleasant aftermath at close quarters earlier in the day.

I rode an EMT HST into Barrow Hill once for an open day.

I'd love to see one on the Marston Vale branch one day.

I had a Virgin Cross Country HST between Crewe & Shrewsbury one evening many years ago. Birmingham had basically been closed due to rather a lot of snow & the powers that be diverted the service down the Marches line. As a yardstick for how long ago this was, I had a 155 from Shrewsbury to Chester afterwards (before conversion to 153's).

Never did find out if it made it to Bristol & beyond that day.:s

If the Provincial 155s were still around, then it won't have been a Virgin HST:

153 conversion completed by the end of 1992.
Virgin CrossCountry franchise began Jan 1997.

Were hsts diverted over the inverness aberdeen line when the highland mainline was closed after the incident at carrbridge in 2010.
Although the drivers probably didnt have the route knowledge but maybe were conducted.
Or most likely scenario the service ran to perth or possibly even aviemore.

Ah, my memory isn't what it used to be!;) Definitely a 155 so a BR operated Cross Country set in that case.

Back in the early days of VXC, a 2-carriage VXC HST set made its way to Manchester Airport from Glasgow Central/Edinburgh (covering for a 158).

Has the NMT ever visited South Hylton? I know 37 hauled test trains have been down there so wondered if the NMT also has...

That was quite a regular thing for a time. The railway press where quoting almost line speed over Beatock & Shap.

Don't worry about it, happens to us all... in this very thread I've mentioned a memory of multiple HST sets passing Borth, which may well be false!

Had one into Portsmouth Harbour, which confused all the people who were waiting for Britannia to arrive.
