Things change, if Euston isn't working now, other options will be explored. It ain't over till the fat lady sings.

Old Oak is being built anyways, Stratford is already there. Heathrow will be required at some stage. Reusing existing platforms at St Pancras & Euston following HS2 opening would be less disruptive than a full rebuild at Euston whilst WCML services are running at capacity.
