I was under the impression that the line was to remain single track with some mods either end and resignalling. This looks more like track bed work.

I would think this is more likely to be in connection with the new roadworks for the new Mersey road bridge. This is a massive scheme with new road junctions alongside the line underway already.
The Bridge and new Motorway style roads will be up and running whilst the Chord upgrade is still being talked about the way things are going. Having said that if someone at the meetings could have "conned" the Mersey bridge people into paying for the re-instatement that would be an achievement.

I plan to take the last parliamentary of 2015, tomorrow morning from Chester to Runcorn, going to take a good look at what's happened so far.

I took Saturday mornings service over the curve ( 6 passengers on board) , what I noticed was quite a wide area of vegetation which had cleared and covered with ballast as the pictured showed earlier on in this thread. Quite a bit of machinery, which I couldn't say what it was being used for, some black piping, possibly for drainage, and some other items that looked a bit like grids, also a new steels set of steps from top of embankment to the track level. All this was going on more or less in the middle of the Halton Curve, what came to mind was could it be anything to do with a Beechwood Station ?

I have a few photos on my phone not too clear, as obviously moving, but i will attempt to post them on here.

Down as earthworks in the WON, highly likely to be completely unrelated to any future chord works.

I've had a brief review of Real Time Trains and noticed in the next few weeks there are three freight movements to Frodsham Junction from Chester and Crewe. Complete speculation but possible deliveries for the current 'maintenance' work?

It looks quite major whatever they are doing, certainly I haven't seen or heard of anything done to the line in years. It would nice to think it has something to do with the lines upgrade, we shall see.

It is near Beechwood, Runcorn. Google it and you will see where it is. The section runs along the Weston Point Expressway.

(I'm a little surprised you are asking the question given that you dont seem to live too far from the line unless you dont live in Dutton or Frodsham?)

Would this work not be in connection with the major work going on to build the new bridge across the Mersey? There are a lot of roads closed and diverted to build what look like new feeder roads to the new bridge. The adjacent expressway is one of those roads with cones everywhere.

I do live in Dutton, why should I say I do if I didn't ! I don't know Runcorn well, l just pass through it, so helpful hints was what l was after.

I seriously doubt this is to do with the chord, it isnt far enough down the GRIP stages, let alone where it goes out for consultation as a Network Change.

You be surprised, some people put a location down and they dont live anywhere near it, hence asking? I just pass through Runcorn myself when out and about but with the ongoing "bridge" roadworks, you soon learn alternative ways to get around it albeit it takes a little longer.

As for the hint, did suggest "google" it as it easier to do then attempt to explain - see - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place...2!3m1!1s0x487ae2e1cc0e93e1:0x6866cb3919a6a7fe - and the track in question is along side Rocksavage Expressway.

When looking for a location, this is what I do, Google it and along with Google Earth, you normally able to locate it. It is all very easy to use. HTH!
