Won't help during the big Westbury closure - that'll presumably have to be via Bristol.I guess they'll divert via Melksham right?
Depends exactly what's planned ("Westbury area" is a bit vague) - is the Avoiding Line affected?Won't help during the big Westbury closure - that'll presumably have to be via Bristol.
No the avoiding line will be open, but all lines through Westbury station, and the station itself will be closed for 30 days.Depends exactly what's planned ("Westbury area" is a bit vague) - is the Avoiding Line affected?
Do you have a link as to what the work entails, please? No the avoiding line will be open, but all lines through Westbury station, and the station itself will be closed for 30 days.
Huge amount of S&C renewal.Do you have a link as to what the work entails, please?
Which precludes any diversion via Melksham, which was the original query. No the avoiding line will be open, but all lines through Westbury station, and the station itself will be closed for 30 days.
But means diversions via Bristol are unnecessary.Which precludes any diversion via Melksham, which was the original query.
True - getting my closure dates confused. But means diversions via Bristol are unnecessary.
Presumably the trains Euston bound will be needing to stop somewhere to pick up pilot drivers, I had assumed that would happen at Reading. Will this occur at Taunton and Swindon? Surely not, perhaps a stop at Acton Mainline?
Or Ealing Broadway? - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/se.../0200-0159?stp=WVS&show=call&order=wtt&toc=GWPerhaps they will stop at Reading as an operational stop only "for crew purposes"?
The Ealing Broadway stop seems timed for a power change, while Reading is listed as a staffing stop in that schedule.
Presumably be Reading GWR drivers being piloted then. Shame, had quite fancied a drive into Euston!Reading has the "service stops for staffing reasons" on those 1Zxx headcodes though.
And in a piece of genius, Highways agency has closed A36 south of Bath (and north of Westbury) until at least March 2025 due to subsidence. So going to be very long way round for any bus alternatives. The HGV diversion is about 50 miles via BristolNo the avoiding line will be open, but all lines through Westbury station, and the station itself will be closed for 30 days.
But the bus diversion doesn’t need to be. In fact, the obvious alternative route for single deckers is shorter than the A36 (and is already served by buses). Any buses serving Bradford-on-Avon wouldn’t need that stretch of the A36 anyway. Not sure “stroke of genius” is appropriate if the alternative would have been closure due to the road sliding down the hillside, which is basically what is happening (and on the A367 as well)And in a piece of genius, Highways agency has closed A36 south of Bath (and north of Westbury) until at least March 2025 due to subsidence. This friday?GWR in and out of Euston twice on Friday…
How can you blame subsidence on Highways Agency? And in a piece of genius, Highways agency has closed A36 south of Bath (and north of Westbury) until at least March 2025 due to subsidence. So going to be very long way round for any bus alternatives. The HGV diversion is about 50 miles via Bristol
It being 4th attempt to fix problem in a few years, so not sorted previously, suggests not blame freeHow can you blame subsidence on Highways Agency?
I’m sure Highways Agency (and the contractors who fix these things) are doing the absolute best to rectify the subsidence, and am pretty sure that they have not closed the road just for the fun of it. Not everything has to be a blame game!It being 4th attempt to fix problem in a few years, so not sorted previously, suggests not blame free

Nothing in Realtime trains that I could find.Yes (tomorrow)
Yes - GBRF drivers.Today there’s a 3Q81 0934 Reading-Euston and 3Q82 1109 Euston-Reading. Presumably this is an IET. It’s shown as a GB Railfrieght operated train though.

I was principally referring to the comment that the diversionary route (for HGVs) was so long. Nothing to stop RRBs not serving Bradford on Avon from going via the Midford Road - as long as they’re single deckers. The town bridge at Bradford would be a problem whether or not the A36 was closed - would having the RRB stop 200 yards or so from the station be a major problem? If that route crosses the town bridge at Bradford-on-Avon then it has a severe weight limit and is barred to road coaches of the sort that RRS tend to use.
