If it was going to happen, it did at the best time… least impact
Successfully caught the 1114 ex-Euston, travelling as far as Swindon, and returning on the 1319 ex-Swindon.
Ticketing-wise, at the Euston ticket machines, had to specify a non-Euston London station to get an open return (London Terminals to Swindon). Trains were busy, but not rammed. Reservations were down on the 1114 due to a 9-car train deputising for a 10-car formation, and the carriage I was in on the 1319 appeared to be the unreserved carriage. Managed to get right-hand, forward-facing window seats on both trains
Only serious delay was waiting on the inbound journey for an outbound train to clear the single-track section just west of Willesden West London Junction.
The 1114 GWR service from Euston to Swansea was already shown as "Boarding" at 1034 when I got to the concourse!

Yes automated announcements and departure boards showed/spoke it like any other train at Euston. On the train the displays also said London Euston. I can't remember if there were any automated onboard announcements.
This is funny! On the way back, at Swindon, the auto platform announcements said:
"This is the 1319 GWR service to, calling at only."
As if "Euston" was an expletive or something

Ah I guess that's Rodger's voice not having a recording for Euston! It was Anne at Taunton (some other platforms are Rodger though) who has a recording for almost everywhere.
I do prefer Rodger myself. Always nice to hear him when going out west.
Yes, on train announcements were used. Janine happily announced Euston.

Sounds like a better experience than boarding with Avanti.
I hope it goes similarly on Friday 27 December when I plan to do this route on a Britrail Pass.
However I see that platforms 1 and 2 were used yesterday, while p14-16 are scheduled for Christmas, and based on earlier posts the timings may also be updated?

I was on a southbound LNER yesterday and we were sat next to a lady who was going to KGX and then to Didcot. She was going to go via Waterloo to Reading and flat out refused to believe me when I told her she could get a train to Reading from Euston. I had to show her the RTT page eventually...
Technically she was right as other than a couple of services Reading was purely a staff stop.
Unless she was travelling on the 2132 from Euston, she couldn't get a train to Reading from Euston, as the other trains stopped there only for staff purposes.

Sorry, I meant to Ealing and thence to Reading (and Didcot). Still quicker than going via Waterloo!

Up sleeper arrived in P3 this morning.
I understand that GWR, Heathrow Express and Elizabeth line services were disrupted this morning by overrunning engineering work. Does anyone know whether this was works at Old Oak Common or elsewhere? I imagine that there will have been a few worksites taking advantage of yesterday's line closure into Paddington.

The view out of the left hand side of the WCML Down Fast between Camden and Willesden is not the prettiest.
Some new OHL steelwork at the top of Acton bank, I think.
And plenty of work going on on the GW Relief lines east of Acton ML.

As stated up thread, it was a broken rail (IBJ / fishplate technically) which cause the early morning disruption on Sunday.
The overrunning engineering work this morning around the OOC area but a large area was blocked with a few worksites so not sure exactly which bit overran. This prevented movement on all 4 lines and Elizabeth line getting any units out of OOC depot and GWR (briefly) from North Pole for start of service.

Do they leave Euston on electric? and if so, where do they switch to diesel?
(I would guess with the enclosed nature of the platforms at Euston that diesel would not be popular - when was the last time diesels regularly operated there?)

GWR operate on diesel on the WCML.
The GW sleeper has a class 90 from LSL power the coaches in Euston to stop the 57s smoking out the station though…
They ran from Euston to Ealing Broadway on diesel power. My surprise was that the switchover did not happen whilst the train was stopped at Ealing Broadway, but a few seconds later. To be clear, the diesel was definitely powering away from Ealing Broadway, then idled for around 30 seconds before shutting down.
